HTC considers EVO 4G screen separation flaw minor; will address screen sensitivity issue in a patch?

Rumor

evo-4g-ctia

Potentially good news for HTC EVO 4G owners, as a circulating rumor suggests that HTC is addressing the screen problems that are reportedly plaguing its flagship WiMAX handset. According to the unofficial source, HTC is aware of the screen separation issue and is playing the waiting game to see if this problem develops further. Currently, the handset manufacturer considers this problem to be minor and has made some refinements to its assembly process to eliminate this cosmetic flaw in future production runs. HTC has also reportedly acknowledged that a select number of its EVO 4G handsets suffer from a screen sensitivity problem. The screen sensitivity issue is thought to affect a disproportionate number of handsets in arid climates and HTC is working on a software patch to fix this issue. How about it EVO owners? Are you seeing any of these reported issues?

The one complaint i have about the evo, and google guys take note, has a great front facing camera, but qik doesnt work worth a damn. google build in the video calling feature, like facetime on the iphone4,,

    • Antonio

If your Qik app is yellow, it is the original one that came on the phone which does not work well with the EVO (if at all). It kept crashing my EVO. Check the market, download the “Qik For EVO” app. The icon app should be blue after that, it replaces the preinstalled one. I hope that helps, I was dissapointed that Qik didnt work right and more EVO owners need to know about this. The manager of my local Radio Shack didn’t know this either and he has an EVO

Okay, no one has said anything about the “going forward” official comment re the screen separation. Am I missing something? As Michael Jackson said “what about us??” I picked up my second EVO yesterday, hardware rev.3. Right out of the box, you could see the lower corners up above the bezel. Got it home ribs dark roo, almost keeled over. You could use my beloved EVO as a flashlight! A newer version than I returned, and so bad, I put electrical tape on the seams so the leaking does not distract me. As the phone warms up, and the rubber cement, bubble gum, or whatever they used to hold on the screen becomes more flexible, I see the corners coming up higher. Folks, I don’t want to try pushing my screen down every 15 minutes. Boy Genius, you are very outspoken, why are you not telling owners to cause h*ll?? Call HTC. Call Sprint. These phones cannot be repaired.

Typos sorry, ‘in a dark room’

    • Reality

there not doing that because that has nooo effect on how the phone works. If it caused a problem that would be different, you cant even feel the difference! It is a total asthetic thing

Man, I really hope HTC and Sprint get all of this bullshit straightened out. I REALLY wanted an EVO, but seeing all of the problems it’s had, I am extremely hesitant:
    1) screen separation
    2) top portion of screen not responding/grounding issue
    3) 30 fps cap (supposedly HTC is looking into how to fix this)
    4) Battery life (some say it isn’t good, others say it is on par with their 3GS, others say it is just fine)

This one isn’t a problem, but the 720p video recording is 24 fps, whereas the new droids to be announced on June 23 are 30fps, and have better processors. The Snapdragon is now surpassed by the Hummingbird and TI OMAP. However if HTC can fix these issues, and address them in a public statement saying that they have fixed them, then I will be getting an EVO. Sprint’s plans are too good to pass up. But if HTC does not fix these EVO problems then I will be going elsewhere.

Yes Apple fanboys there are numerous issues with the Evo please don’t switch over from your feature rich iphones and flawless at&t network. Plus unlimited everything is boring and a little overrated in my opinion. I miss keeping track of my usages and find myself forgetting my sprint log in because of it. Fcuk espn mobile, fcuk garmin like turn by turn navi, and fcuk the apps that let you dl music and tether for free. HTC and Sprint, you make me sick..

Man, ya must be getting your phones from the underground, had my phone for 3 weeks and used it non stop haven’t even turned it off for 3 days and 4 of my co workers have it as well, No problem, and no issue what so ever.

  • dstalter08

My screen is also separating, allowing light to leak out onto the display, across the bottom. There also is a slight give to the screen when you press on it.It is not real bad, but,it is a flaw, and I’m worried it will get worse.
I’ll probably returning it for a replacement when the fixed ones come available.

Sounds like a repeat of the Hero. Many people, myself included, are stuck with an otherwise great phone with a crap screen that collects dust under it, and HTC has ignored the problem entirely. For phones that are centered around the screen, they really do a terrible job at making sure they’re up to snuff. The whole situation, and their handling (or more accurately, non-handling) of the situation with the Hero screens has convinced me to avoid their phones if at all possible, as I prefer not to spend that much money on a phone to have it be faulty in such a major way, and then have it be shrugged off by the company. No loyalty to the customer means no loyalty to the company. To any considering an HTC phone, please be careful. Do NOT trust them to fix the issues. They’re only interested in making money off you and moving on to their next phone, and have shown with two phones in a row they are incompetent when it comes to screen design. I would be perfectly happy to see HTC go the way of Ol’ Yeller and be replaced by a company that actually knows how to build a phone and how to treat their customers.

I’ve had the phone for almost 6 weeks and I haven’t had a single issue. My only problem is how everyone is now producing phones that are superior to the iPhone; the HTC Evo, Samsung Moment and many more to come. I would have loved to stay with Apple if they were able emulate HTC, however the Evo is in a class of its own.

What made me swap form the iPhone to the Evo was the Evo’s technology. Apple might be able to fool the ignorant by using VGA in lieu of 300,000 Mp or Retina A in lieu of Super AMOLED but most of us in the tech. field know better. The Evo’s front facing camera is 1,300,000 Mp compared to the iPhone’s 300,000, ergo The Evo has two superior cameras. The Samsung Epic 4G comes with their own Super Amoled screen which IMHO is better than the iPhone’s Retina A.

When it comes down to network, Sprint has twice ATT’s 3G network and has a rapidly growing 4G network. ATT won’t have its 4G network until 2012. Even then Sprint has plenty of Spectrum allocated for its 4G network, wheras ATT is going to be hard pressed to find Spectrum.

Give me back my Blackberry, this phone sucks.
