In a webinar for developers on Thursday, Palm announced that it will be launching a developer-friendly promotion on all paid apps in the App Catalog. Starting June 18th and ending on July 9th, the promotion will slash the price on every paid app in the App Catalog by 50%. In a move sure to please developers, Palm will subsidize the promotion and pay developers the full retail price for each app purchased. WebOS owners looking to save some cash and support the webOS developer community can do so by purchasing a few dozen apps when the promo kicks in.

…so like six people will be able to take advantage of the discount? Cool story, bro!

    • Rdx

I’ll have to give myself a Prrrrrrrrrromotion!

If they really want a promotion they need to start giving away Pres and Pixis without requiring a contract.

Wait, but what’s stopping developers from just doubling the price of their apps so
consumers are paying the same price as always, and palm is just paying the developers double what they usually make?

What is a palm? Is it an iPhone app?

  • LL

That amounts to a $1.00 savings!!!

  • Amroth

Wow! Why all of the Palm hate? Do you all feel THAT threatened by Palm’s superior software and (since the buy out) potential to gain marketshare?

    • Jane Seymour

@ Amroth – Well, this is a Palm thread, so most everyone that’s posting here owns a Palm. Except me. But it’s not my position to trash the Palm, because by doing so I’m insulting those who paid their hard earned cash for one, and are hopefuly enjoying their purchase.

We all have our preferences as to which cell phone we think better fits our needs, and nobody should call another person names just because they are not using the same phone as they are.

Having said that, it’s obvious that Palm is doing a 50% off promotion in order to help and keep their app’s developers, and users, happy.

It’s also obvious that both Palm and Sprint had greater expectations for the Palm phone and OS, and for many reasons, it just didn’t pan out the way they thought.

That’s pretty sad because the Palm is a pretty good device and ports a pretty good OS, that could’ve done much better, in terms of sales, than it did.

Hopefully HP will try to do a better marketing job, and take the Palm to the position it deserves.

People who say 6 people and 12 apps stop being ridicolous, palm app catalog has 3k apps, and many more users. Let me guess, iPhone users? Yeah it only took 4 generations for it to get folders and multitasking lmao

Palm OS is great, Palm hardware is why they fail. That has always been the case and it still is today.

  • grape nuts

I love my Pre. Sure, it not the best or most solid piece of hardware but the WebOS is fantastic. App store is actually pretty good. It’s not as big as the others, but really……how many Fart Macines and Strip Poker Apps do you really need? Hope to see more Web OS devices soon.

Just enjoy what you like. haters be damned.
