Next-gen iPhone's chasis shown off on video

Rumor

iphone-4-chasis

If you we’re praying that all of the iPhone 4/4G/HD leak madness would stop — considering its official unveiling is under a week away — it looks like you just didn’t pray hard enough, as iPhone Portugal has joined in the rumor madness with what looks to be a set of chassis meant for the upcoming phone. It’s not 100% clear if these parts are real or simply ripped from knockoff device, in light of the fact they were purchased in China for an undisclosed sum, but apparently the fit and finish is so nice that iPhone Portugal is all but certain they’re genuine. Based upon what we’re seeing, and the sophisticated level of engineering, we’re fairly confident their assumption is spot on. Hit the jump for a couple of videos.

did not mean to upset you Joseph.

All you fanboys read a post about apple and start to bash.  No one really sticks up for apple, but I will.

you said “If you want to make a valid argument, learn some grammar, brush up on your knowledge of both sides, and calm down.”

I know about both sides.  I gave you good reasons why android is far behind but you really never addressed any of them.

Fragmentation – as older versions of Android become outdated and security holes are found in different parts of the OS, exploits become available. As exploits become available for the older versions that some carriers won’t be patching right away, the seedy programming underground writes apps that take advantage of those holes.  There is a virus out already for your android os.

Copy/paste sucks, no matter what mobile platform you use. It’s just that Apple really does do it better.

Apps – There may be 200,000 plus for iPhone, and a lot of them are very relevant. It’s probably about 50k that are only there to annoy everyone with their crap, and usually those apps get buried when the user base point out they suck.

Ease of use/simplicity/user experience/integration. And this is a big one. The iPhone “just works” for most people, Android is a little less seamless and can be more daunting to novice user.

A true unified inbox. To be fair, this isn’t coming until iPhone 4.0, but I installed the developer build on my iPhone 3GS just for this feature and it’s fabulous. Android has separate apps for Gmail and Mail. Fail.

Media player. Apple’s built-in iPod app beats Android’s Music app handily because it includes support for podcasts and videos built in. I KNOW, Android 2.2 includes support for Android Music Streaming Service (from its acquisition of Simplify Media)

Software Updates. Apple releases its iPhone OS updates simultaneously for all devices, Android, not so much. Witness Froyo/Android 2.2, Nexus One users are getting it now, but devices running Sense UI (a.k.a. HTC Incredible) are getting it in the “second half of 2010.” Seriously Why?

sorry if my grammar is off or spelling I am punching this out on my iphone.

-Unified inbox on Android is only on non-gmail email as Gmail uses true push, rather than POP/IMAP. They’re different apps because the email client is part of the AOSP, while GMail is proprietary. You can actually add Gmail accounts to your email client to have a unified inbox, but you won’t have push functionality.

Personally, I prefer them to be separate, as my different email accounts have differing priorities (do you want your spam/throwaway email to collect in the same inbox as your personal and work inboxes?!?). This is a plus, in my book.

-Fragmentation is a buzzword thrown around by bloggers and journalists who whine about differing marketplaces. Personally, I’m upset that there’s no Where app for AT&T Nexus One, but that isn’t really Google’s fault (according to Where). The 1.6 profile is basically complete for my needs. For high-end games, you need Android 2.x for OpenGL ES 2.0 support- just like ES 2.0 games will only run on the 3GS and ipad. Also, ipad has apps that the ipod touch and iphone don’t. Does that mean that Apple’s app store is fragmented as well?

-While app quantity is lacking, we’re working on it. Also, the low quantity of apps plus the huge marketshare is attracting developers.

Your post is way to long. Could you please shorten it to a sentence for me?

      • gee

        yeah, android sucks

  • alex

Android has more features, iphone os is way smoother. Android has manycool phones, iphone has many cool apps. Not worth argueing about. I have a droid but id love to own a iphone on verizon one day.

  • geesh

As an iPhone user I gotta say this….. Fuck Apple. When I first got an iphone, it was the greatest, but come on, its been almost 4 years now and its still the same. All the ppl here arguing for apple are crazy, I saw someone mention cydia…. go to cydia and search android, see what comes up, about 100 different look alike themes, widgets( yeah the ones you guys say suck) and all this other useful stuff. I have to jailbreak my phone evry couple of months when they update, loose everything, just so I can use it the way I want to? Os 4.0 is going to be the same bullshit they always do, now they add a flash? Woooooooooooooooow, awseome, my cell back in ’98 had a flash. FUCK APPLE.

    • gee

      you never had an iphone

      • geesh

I’ve had every iPhone ever released. What did I say that’s a lie?

    • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

good one less fangirl in line on launch day

      • Patrick Moto Droid

I thought you guys hated the look of the leaked iPhone!? I can’t imagine any one of you standing in line to buy one. That would discredit all of your previous posts on what a piece of junk that fake phone looks like. Meanwhile the only phones that have android on them that no one wants are on AT&T

    • Kelly

I had the 1G and have the 3GS and I agree with you. Well, I’ll have the 3GS for 3 more days then the Evo (similar to iPhone 5G). Time to check out Android and 4G data.

  • Geesh

I’ve had every iPhone ever released. What did I say that’s a lie?

  • neo

    @Geesh
    you are full of shit.

  • Gee

    @geesh,
it’s obvious your new to this. Your a fanboy who’s out trolling. You never had a iPhone.
    We can tell.

    • jonathan T

Sorry, I don’t think you ever had an Iphone too. I’ve been to too many blog sites for years to know one who is just trollin and bashing anything popular. Try again, and change your fake name too.

      • gee

hey JT thanks for joining. we love your comments, do fell proud of your self. i mean you just brought so much to the table. thanks jerk off

  • DTGTDI

You people kill me…..lol……You are arguing over a PHONE…..Does anyone here have stock in Google or Apple? If not then your opinion doesn’t mean anything to either one of those companies and even if you did have stock, its probably not much since your sitting here patrolling the forums arguing over a PHONE……lol…..Come on people. I like to laugh but some of these post make me think if you were all in a room together, someone would get punched in the face……is it that serious??

    • gee

      @dtgtdi.

yes i have stock in apple. would you like my DLJ account print out. oh sorry now Credit Suisse.

  • Wayne

I recently got rid of my iPhone because the phone service was beyond belief. Sometimes 10 dropped calls a day. I had 3 phones on my plan and AT&T only insisted on $130 in early termination fees as opposed to $390 so I’m not exaggerating about the poor service. I now have a Motorola Droid and while Verizon’s service is far better, the iPhone beats my Droid device in every other way. I’m not on the tech level of most of the people who comment here but I’m not citing all kinds of tech terms, just real life use. Hoping for an Apple device on Verizon one day.

  • Geesh

You guys kill me, the truth really hurts. You’re telling me I never had an iphone, when I’m using one to type this. The fact still remains, a stock iphone sucks ass. PERIOD. Evrybody knows that.

  • wanderer

@Geesh, if you are typing this on an iPhone, every iPhone owner will have the BGR app statement on the bottom of your comment, like what you see now. Where is yours? Oh, I guess you used safari to access the site directly instead of launching the BGR app…..not!

    • Patrick Moto Droid

The app is a fail beacause it doesn’t differentiate between iPods/iPhones.

  • wanderer

@DTGTDI, naaaah, we do this for fun and entertain ourselves. When you are happy with your choice in device, ever statement is really irrelevant.

Yes guy I am using safari. This is crazy, somehow honesty don’t work here. I been an iPhone fan for years now ever since 2G, but technology grows, and apple takes too long to catch up even after pioneering the touchscreen generation. How much of you can really tell me right now that if you couldn’t jailbreak your iPhone you would be on here praising it? Be real. I don’t have any other phones but my 3gs and I can say this if I want to, cause I’m honest.

  • Gee

    Geesh,
    stop flapping.

  • Ace Curry

Geesh, I believe you are an iPhone user because you believe that “Apple pioneered the touchscreen.” (fail lol). First ever 3.5″ full color full touch screen was the HTC XDA in 2002. A classic phone. Never here in the States but very popular in Europe.

Gee, you do bring up some interesting points (first time I have heard and iPhone user actually bring up points. No joke). I will address them as fairly as I can.

1a). Yes fragmentation does exist throghout Android. I personally think Donut (1.6) and Eclair (2.1) are both very good operating systems in their own right (never used any OS below 1.6).

1b) Smartphones are like mini computers. Underground hackers will create viruses that can take control of phones. You just have to be smart about it like you would on any computer. THERE WAS A VIRUS MADE WHICH AFFECTED SOME JAILBROKEN iPHONES (love how you decided to leave that one out). The only Android malware found (that I have read about) was through memory cards supplied by Vodafone.

1c) iPhone 3G and 2G will not be upgraded to OS 4.0. And as previously stated, previous iPhone OS’ have already been exploited.

    2. I do agree. I hope they fix it in the next iteration of the OS. It is not that big of a deal. It works. At least Android got copy & paste when the OS launched as opposed to having to wait several years to get it. It isn’t like it is a new technology or anything.

    3. Android has 50k but the OS was launched 1.5 years ago. How large was the iPhone app market 1.5 years after its launch? As popularity increases, the app market will grow. And popularity will continue to grow due to the openness. There will be Android phones in every price range from entry level to high end. On every carrier (including crap ones like Cricket and Boost).

    4. You would have to be braindead if you cannot operate an Android phone (okay maybe not, it does require some intelligence. But operating the iPhone also requires some intelligence. Same goes for any smartphone. IT IS A SMARTPHONE). Easy to use is just a fancy term for handcuffed. If you get a high end Android phone, the high resolution screen (the naked eye can see pixels on a current iPhone, it cannot for a high res Android device) for a crisp display and the faster processor and high ram would combine for a very smooth experience (based on my experience with my sisters iPhone, I have found my Android experience to be much smoother overall).

    5. Don’t really mind it.

    6. Yeah I am using RealPlayer as my media player and so far I like it (music/videos/pictures all in one app). Wish it supported podcasts but there is an app for that. Syncs with my computer easily but I just drag and drop to my SD Card.

    7. There are like three iPhones and over 50 Android phones. Each phone uses different drivers for their hardware. Most of these manufacturers put their own user interfaces onto it and it becomes a pain for them to update. And the “second half of 2010″ is in one month, infact the HTC Desire is rumored to get it on the 23rd of June. The people who purchased the phone should have known this when they purchased it (except Samsung Behold II owners who completely got the shaft as they were promised an update which probably will never come). If you buy the Google-branded Nexus (which is competitively priced with the iPhone despite being far superior in hardware, and IMO software), you will get the update as soon as it comes out. If you don’t, you are most likely going to have to wait. At least Android phones are upgradeable unlike other open platforms (such as WinMo) and due to the openness, underground developers are able to upgrade it themselves (they already got FroYo on some phones).

Yes the iPhone does have some advantages, but Android is without a doubt a more powerful operating system.
    a) It is customizable. Anything you want to change, you can change. You can change your wallpaper, you can add widgets throughout your homescreens, you can place icons wherever you want to place icons, you can change the launcher, you can change the keyboard (example being a keyboard like swype which is the way typing on a touchscreen should be), you can change the color of your notification bar, you can change your boot up animation. Maybe you deem that as harder to use, but I deem it as the ability to make the phone truly mine.

    b) Basic stuff like free tethering (FroYo will include it, hafta buy an app for previous iterations making it a one-time fee instead of a monthly fee), free turn-by-turn GPS navigation.

    c) Android 2.2 will have flash giving you a true web browsing experience as opposed to a watered down one. While Safari is a good browser, FroYo will offer Chrome, Firefox and Opera (with all of them having flash).

    d) Given the openness of Android, it is inevitable that high end hardware on Android phones will always be superior to that of Apple at lower prices. As there are many manufacturers making Android phones. I realize that we are debating OS BUT how smoothly the OS runs does depend on how good the hardware is.

@ geesh, you know some comments are taken with a grain of salt sort of speak, because some folks are really bent on trashing the device so they’ll say they have tried it and it sucked. Your initial comment did not have enough substance to be convincing from what I could tell. The fact that you have had all 3 iPhones and only now you are trashing your own phone is highly unusual especially for an iPhone user. I personally don’t know of any acquaintance of mine that hates their iPhone. I am only on my first one(3GS) and I love it. Been a Nokia Nseries guy for the last 6 years and finally transitioned over to apple a year ago with no regrets. In 5 days I might be looking at my second one, can’t wait.
