Apple delays international iPads until the end of May

Oh, dear. Anyone outside the U.S. hoping for an iPad to call their own before the month’s end will be sorely disappointed. Apple has just announced all international sales have been delayed until the end of May due to strong demand in the US. Here’s Apple statement.

Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.

Yeah, Apple. All of us who live outside of the U.S. are sooo pleased for you.

    Recession? What recession? Real unemployment in the US is 15% and yet people can’t stop buying things they don’t need and probably charged it to their credit cards they’ll never be able to afford to pay back. Add to that the fact these devices are made in China and now you see why the US economy is in shambles and will be for at least the next 10 years.

      So what! You pay a one time fee of $500 then that’s it. It’s not like a cell phone where by the end of the contract you will have paid over $2,000. Hell just skip lunch at your job for a couple of months and you’ll have enough for an iPad in no time flat. I’m american and what you say is complete BS comparing to other expenditures.

    Well. Apple is pissing about again. That is deliberate marketing to try and increase semand. Also what a shocker. They will not release any prices yet. That my order cancelled. I’ll spend it on something else. Yet again Apple falls flat.

    Also, this is a PR stunt… remember, some were saying 700k were sold early on (false) and really, does anyone believe Apple didn’t expect a big sale?!?

      Apple never stated 700k were sold, so I doubt it was a PR stunt (which means that it’s invalid to use it as a way to support your assumption).

    I am still not buying one, I will wait for the 2nd generation to decide. My delayed purchase aside, this is still the biggest selling device on the planet.

    Should hit a million in it’s first two weeks. Still waiting for the 3G launch and once the international orders begin this will be the only thing talked about…….. Oh, I guess it is pretty much the only thing talked about.

        Yeah, I have the Application. I was questioning whether he had the application. I remember a few weeks back some people in here were breaking balls because the Apps leaves that tag. They were assuming people were just typing it in. As upset as he is that Apple has yet another successful product I was really asking whether he has any apple devices at all.

    does it automatically. but it’s an iPod touch not an iPhone. left my Moto Droid in the car.
    some people do use gadets from different companies you know. would never buy an ipad though. Just seems like a 9 inch waste of money. the 799 MacBook ain’t bad though. but I have two laptops and a mac already so no need YET. never a need for the idouchepad.

    Seems to me you Droid fans can’t say “I was wrong.”

    Believe me, it’s important to learn to do. The iPad is going to sell million + wordwide before Christmas.

    Multi-tasking is in the immediate wings, and it will be done the right way.

    As a PC builder, this sounds so much like Intel v. your hero, AMD. And we all know how that turned out.
