Sprint to get 4G Mobile Hotspot from Sierra Wireless soon

We get the feeling that early 2010 is going to be big for Sprint’s WiMax. We came by one of these training slides for a new 3G/4G mobile hotspot, precisely like the Mi-Fi, for Sprint. Like many of Sprint’s wireless data cards, this one is also going to be made by Sierra Wireless. What we’re hearing is that this new device will be able to support up to five users via Wi-Fi and its range is being increased to 100 feet. In addition to the added range and power, it will also support SD card storage; while that doesn’t sound like a big deal, the data can be shared by every user who is connected to the data card. No official pricing or release date just yet, but we’re looking at a possibly February launch for this dual 3G-4G wireless hotspot in your pocket.

        Touche. But the main point of this is the WiMax aspect of it. While I still like the proposition LTE brings towards moving to 4G for mobile phones, I do like the prospect of WiMax for last-mile delivery of nearlu-stationary internet services (I say that with respect to laptop users :) ), and perhaps even TV delivery. I’m actually surprised AT&T isn’t investing in WiMax at all for its residential services, since it isn’t doing the FTTP for its U-Verse product as Verizon does with FiOS.

      No no no no no no no. Sprint already has the same mifi device that vzw has, this would be a 4G mifi-like device that supports wireless data via wimax.

      Some people are just idiots. Sprint had the mifi before Verizon and At&t. This would be something completely different and new. Verizon might have something like this in 2 years when LTE launches.

      @ Sam…….did you read the article? Sprint’s had a 3G MiFi device for months and months, it’s silver and better looking that Verizons. Not all plastic.

I mean come-on… the heading has 4G written all over it and we have idiots here talking about CDMA and the other US carriers which have no 4G right now… I’m sorry I usually don’t post comments but I can’t believe how stupid some people can be…

    This is sweet! Sprint is really gettin after it here. “Unlimited” 4G, like on their mobile boradband card? If so, this will make VZ’s 3G MiFi go 6 feet under with their 5 gig cap.

    I’v been waiting for a 4G MiFi product to upgrade from my 3G device. Can’t wait!
