AT&T now selling the HTC Tilt2 for $299.99

the sim card is preinstalled on the Sprint version as well, so same as Verizon and it just requires a call to them before you travel overseas. I travel a ton in the US and go overseas once or twice per year, so it works great for me.

either way, this is a great phone on any carrier and we all have reasons for choosing a particular carrier.

Was waiting for this thing but, after thinking about it more….screw this thing, no idea why AT&T felt the need to use the mini usb vs a 3.5mm jack like everyone else. Anything to be different even if its worse. This has got to be AT&T’s motto. Also the keyboard is crap, once again no idea why they feel the need to f around with this stuff. Other than “anything to be different even if its worse”. I am seriously praying T-Mob gets the HD2 in the US so I can finally bid farewell to AT&T and the horrid customer service and devices.

I have the iPhone (which is the only reason that I’m on ass€^#} tricks & twats). But if I got the tp2( which is an r Kelly album) I would propably go with sprint because as of late they are bending over backwards more than a new inmate at the county prison for their customers

I would get this for Tmobile or AT&T. Not for a CDMA carrier. As a cell phone seller, I have seen countless WM devices on Sprint or Verizon that are “Un-fixable” due to the added difficulty (and personal uncertainty) in flashing a CDMA device. The 3G on/off toggle is a massive battery saver, even though Sprint’s data speeds are 150-175% that of AT&T, IMO it’s an easier flash on the ROM.

So, I just picked up my T2 from AT&T 2 hours ago, will play with it and flash it after I study for my exam tomorrow (Priorities! I finish the exam guides and I can ‘reward’ myself with T2 time!)

First off, people have need for connectivity abroad. Yes, the rates are expensive but there are ways to bring them down if you travel a lot. Businessmen need it, and even personally, having the connectivity can be nice if used sparingly. Just because YOU wouldn’t use it, doesn’t mean that the service isn’t needed or stupid.

Secondly, you clearly have no idea how prepaid GSM works abroad. It’s cheap only if you’re calling in country numbers. It’s actually MORE expensive to call the US on a prepaid SIM in Europe than it is just to eat AT&T’s roaming.

I’ll give you an example:

I went to Germany and Austria last month. I have an unlocked Fuze and went to a Vodafone store to get a prepaid SIM card. I was staying in Germany most of the time and going to Austria for 2 days.

The card cost 20 euros with 10 euros of airtime. As long as I called German numbers, it was 5 to 10 eurocents a minute. Reasonable. However, calling the US was expensive. It was 1.50 euros a minute to call the US. If I roamed into Austria with the Vodafone SIM, it was 2 euros a minute no matter who I called.

Now, at the time, 1 euro was equal to about $1.47. So to call the US with Vodafone, it would have cost me over $2 a minute. Calling from Austria would have been nearly $3 a minute.

Add to the fact that anyone who wants to call you from the US has to call a foreign number and pay international long distance, it’s not worth it.

Considering the fact that at most I would need to call my friend while I was away, and maybe the US for a few minutes here and there if my kid got sick or something and his mom needed to talk to me, it was much cheaper and much less hassle to eat AT&T’s $1.29 a minute roaming in both Austria and Germany than it was to get a prepaid SIM card.

#1. AT&T’s version is the most faithful design wise to the HTC Touch Pro 2 (Euro) other then the number row and lack of video camera.

#2. 850/1900/2100 HSPA makes travel abroad much more enjoyable.

#3. 7.2HSPA > EVDO Rev. A . I don’t need coverage in Montana Verizon. NYC has great coverage from all carriers so speed is the name of the game and now that AT&T has 7.2 HSPA, none of the other carriers are as fast.

#4. Hacking GSM devices on XDA is much easier then CDMA.

I think AT&T Tilt2 is the only one with 850/1900/2100 3G while others are 900/2100.

Why buy a cheap pre-paid GSM when you can acctually use yout Tilt2 with this pre-paid SIM?

I wouldn’t.

The Imagio is good enough. I’ll take a similar phone with a better carrier. And as far as traveling, just activate my sim card, change my data plan and I’m good to go. I don’t buy sim cards and change my number. Whoever has that theory built into their head regarding changing sim cards with verizon is crazy. It’s the most painless thing to do. Plus, my coverage in the states doesn’t suffer at all since that is where I live.

No device, no matter how cool it is, is worth moving to a a different carrier that will drop my calls or offer no internet service at all.

AT&T and verizon are so overpriced. They think a $120 mobile bill is cool with us.

Sprint service sucks. T-Mobile service sucks.

Verizon is more on the expensive side as I would have to go with a larger plan as I know no one who is on Verizon. They have the best coverage and signal support.

AT&T is what everyone I know uses. They have the second best coverage in my area by a large margin over TMobile or Sprint, and are GSM…

Plus I like the keyboard…

T-Mobile Version is for sure the best buy. For one the XDA boards are full of GSM shit. If you get a GSM version you must install the EnergyRom (http://tinyurl.com/y97sjbl).

Ok this is just my suggestion. Setting aside the people that are forced to take one carrier over anyone else because of geographical limits on coverage I personally think Sprint has better coverage than tmobile and is cheaper than AT&T. Especially since their new aggressive plan includes everything data and all cell phone to cell phone FREE. Add a magic jack ($20 dollars for the whole year)with a laptop and while traveling abroad you can walk into almost all Cafe’s aruond the world including your own hotel such as I did while on my last Mediteranian cruise and called everyone home for free. Yes free and they can call your local US magic jack phone number free also. Did I say that it was FREE. I hope this helps everyone

Well….each carrier has it’s high points:

Verizon – It’s a world phone so it’s SIM capable and has the most solid network in the US(it honestly is a sad fact) plus it has a 3.5mm jack

Sprint – Has a 3.5mm jack and you can get a all you can eat plan for $99.99/month. $25 cheaper than the closest competitor

AT&T – It’s a GSM phone so it can be unlocked and access GSM 3G both here AND over seas. Means you can talk and surf the web…check e-mail AND voicemail at the same time. Tether, while still able to receive and make calls

T-Mobile – Just AT&T it’s a GSM phone, but the price is cheaper/month for everything($125/month for all you can eat). That $125/month includes tethering. Their 3G network isn’t as expansive as AT&T’s but they pretty much have 3G in all the major cities. Plus…they’re the only TP2 that comes in a color other than black, and theirs actually has a hole for the reset button and a slot to take the SD card out. All the other you have to remove the back cover.

In my order(disregarding preference in cell carrier) I’d choose:

1 – Sprint due to pricing(99/mo)+3.5mm jack
2 – T-Mobile due to pricing(125/mo) and the fact it’s GSM. The hole for the reset and slot for SD card dont hurt either
3 – AT&T for the faster 3G network + it’s GSM
4 – Verizon because their unlimited plan is like $160/month which is outrageous lol
