BlackBerry Tour OS 4.7.1.53 available now from Verizon Wireless

Software

BlackBerry-Tour-update

If you didn’t catch the leaked version of 4.7.1.53 that appeared yesterday for the BlackBerry Tour, you’ll be pleased as punch to know that Verizon has officially kicked off the first software maintenance release for the device. The version which we told you about does fix and improve many different aspects of the operating system, yet it’s still not quite perfect. Here’s an official list or change log we put together:

  • Improved MMS notifications
  • Improved Visual Voice Mail app
  • Improved sound quality for Bluetooth headsets and voice calls
  • Fixed geo-tagging error in the camera application
  • Fixed an error with DRM music skipping
  • Improved video player
  • Added BlackBerry Messenger update notifications — check for new BBM updates automatically or manually.
  • Fixed an issue with device restarting after activating morning alarm
  • Fixed an issue with memory cleaning and sluggishness
The first character is no longer duplicated when dialing from the
    home screen.
  • Your smartphone may not have detected headset removal, causing it
to remain connected to a disabled headset.
  • When prompted to add an email account in the Setup Wizard, your
smartphone may have jumped to “Bluetooth® Setup,” leaving you
unable to navigate back to email setup.
  • If you tried to save changes to a contact that only contained a
company name, you may have received the error message “Contact
updated externally. Changes will be lost and the view closed.”

Thanks, to everyone that sent this one in!

Load the “leaked” version using the DM or AppLoader — VZW has not yet enabled wireless OTA or made the download available on their site. The leaked version is the same.

hey u know, im curious weather i’ll still be able to remove vendor files and do other edits to my BB software even though ill be using the mac client? Cause i won’t be able to install the software on my mac so how can i edit it then?…

    thanx fellas. :)

  • Eric

Hey, I did the update but I do not see anywhere the option to check for new BBM updates automatically or manually. Ideas?

  • Matthew

Where can you check for Blackberry Messenger updates in this update? I haven’t seen anything like that.

Verizon has pulled the update. They are having problems with it and will re-release it soon. That is why you cannot OTA, BB DM or find a link at VZW. Thank you. Thank you all so much. I’ll be here all week.

Just to let people know if you didn’t already know, Crackberry reports that RIM removed the update!!

Some of you need to sing up at blackberryforums.com and learn a bit. All os updates are generic and work across all carriers. The only question is on Asian characters. Also os updates need to be downloaded from the web on your computer, installed on your computer, and then you fire up bbdm, which would then see that there’s an update.

blackberryforums.com has these updates way early and detailed install instructions that are noob proof

    @ Bill

Your BES policy defaults to disallow updates. Edit the policy and it will work via BB DTM’s Application Loader.
    I had the same problem

Spoke to VZW support this morning. They insist that VZW has *not* released this. They said that the first place VZW posts maintenance releases is on http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry, and that any availability via Desktop Manager must come from RIM (and is not from VZW). I tried this from Desktop Manager and do not see the 53 release there – perhaps RIM had posted it but removed it since then. VZW further said they’ve had many reports of Tours being bricked from the leaked 53 release. They hope to complete their testing and publish over the next week or so – no guarantees.

Unable to detect using the DM (I am connected to a BES), I downloaded and installed the “leaked” copy using the AppLoader. Before actually installing, I removed the Documents 2 Go .alx file from the new firmware directory as not to overwrite my current installation with an earlier copy. Next, I installed the BBM 5.0 .alx file in the same directory plus the .cod files in the Java directory. The install of the firmware was uneventful (as well as rather quick!), but I had an issue during the data restore part. Apparently, the restore failed for any databases with no data records. I fixed this by performing an advanced manual restore, deselecting all such databases — the restore completed successfully, and I was good to go! Much better performance!

the tech is an idiot. The only way you would get someone elses update via the dm is if you had installed someone elses vendor.XML file and updates alyays come vis the dm and/or OTA update before the website bsimetimes it is just abfew hours or acday or so. Ah lest once that I can remember it was a week.

Oh and yeah mine got beicked too and after 5 attempts to fix it I am getting it replaced. :-(

in conclusion they screwed up and now we are paying for it!

  • nick

how did you do that, i have a leaked mac copy and im trying to get the os but i guess im just dumb

  • Mike

    Snoreeeeeeeeeee… I’ve been running 5.0 for weeks.

  • daytripper

I did the update on my phone. You could do it either from the update site on http://www.blackberry.com or through the BDM. Both automatically found the update, not from Verizon’s website. Update took a bit but it did make a bit of a difference. The update is found through the loader.

    I just got this notice:

    Team,

Verizon has decided to pull the Tour software update and not make it
available to our customers for a couple more weeks. Please forward to
    your stores.

  • Tom

Was this from Verizon or RIM? Was any reason included?

  • bluehorseshoe

Update went fine, but I noticed today that when I receive a call, it rings only once and vibrates the rest of the way. This applies to any ring type outside of vibrate or silent. Anyone else have or notice the issue? VZW isn’t aware of it yet on the update. I’m growing tired of these issues after dealing with the Storm for so long and the Tour’s trackball issues.

  • Pual

I have a 8830 and it only rings one and goes to VM when receiving a forwarded number. If dialed direct it rings 5-6 times then goes to VM

  • GeorgeBushJr

I spoke to Verizon, they claim that if you download a “pirated” update, you will void your warranty.

  • NotHal

Any insight into when an OS update will be (re-)published? VZW had said “any day now” weeks ago….

  • Mike

Blackberry messnager 5.0 has to be downloaded from BB APP WORLD..
