HTC Hero hands on!

Exclusive

Ever since we first messed around with an HTC Hero a few months back we’ve been dreaming about it. Unfortunately we weren’t able to snag one from HTC, but one of our ninjas came through and the one we got (no offense) is so much better — it’s the Teflon Don white version! Instead of that soft-touch rubberized coating, the white variation has a Teflon-based coating which apparently holds up better to nicks and scratches while providing a luxurious-feeling finish that’s pretty much fingerprint and smudge free. Because this isn’t a final device, there’s no box, but do we really care? Nope. While we bang through the review, bounce over to our gallery to check out some flicks!

Why would they release an unlocked t-mobile version for t-mobile’s 30 million subscribers instead of releasing one for AT&T’s nearly 80 million subscribers? Do the math

Heck, you could have just called up George Hincapie (bicyclist on the Columbia-HTC Cycling Team) and asked to see his, he tweeted earlier this week that they just gave him one and was doing his first tweet from it.

I did the math and by my calculations if HTC sold an Unlocked version which included Tmobile 3G they, they would sell more units. Think about it, I never said to not include at&t 3g.

Agreed! I would love if these phone manufacturers would just release phones with both tmobile and at&t 3g bands and then it wouldn’t really be an issue with regards to what gsm carrier gets a particular phone in the US. But seeing as how that most likely will not happen, it is either one or the other and in that case I would say it would be wiser for them to release unlocked phones with at&t 3g.

In that case im hoping they release it with Tmobile 3G. Actually I would prefer a Hardware Qwerty version with the same UI.

Gizmoto is so Apple Fan Boy. This phone destroys the iPhone on so many levels. I am sure buying it when it comes out.

Gizmodo doesnt know much about Android phones, BGR for sure is gonna do the job righht.

Seen this phone in Orange yesterday, The “chin” is a side issue because when you’re holding it, you don’t notice it at all (vertical or horizontal) – but that doesn’t change how it looks, if you don’t like it then you’re not gonna like it full stop.

It looks a great phone and while I haven’t got to use it yet, I still think it is a fantastic iphone alternative. I hate to say it but the iphone may stay ahead of the pack.
