Apple’s rumored touchscreen netbook to sport a 10-inch display?

Rumor

Dow Jones has added fuel to the fire by chiming in with its inside information on the rumored Apple netbook. Two sources “close to the situation” have told Dow Jones that Apple is considering a netbook with a display measuring 9.7 to 10-inches and that the final specifications on the netbook are currently under review. Awesome. Dow Jones’ report is rather nebulous at best, containing information that anyone could certainly concoct. The tablet / netbook rumors persist though, and it will be interesting to see if Jobs’ comment from back in October — “We don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk” — will come back to haunt him. Moving along; let the rampant speculation and non-stop Apple rumor mill continue.

I would sooner imagine Apple would do something like Sony did, and market a fully featured system at Netbook sizes and subnotebook prices.

I love rumors. The blogosphere has been talking about an Apple netbook for years now before the term “netbook” was even coined. Give it a rest. Apple just put out new stuff for you fanboys.

I’ll bet Steve Jobs never comes back to Apple. He’s going to take another 6 month leave of absence in June/July; then around December announce his retirement.

If this thing materializes as a tablet, I’m sooo in.

  • AgBand

^ me toooo. i am like sooooo in if is is a tablet. that would be, like, the coolest thing ever, dude. soooo cool.

I see apple coming out with a 10″ “netbook”. I just don’t see netbook prices. I expect an extremely polished product in the 650 – 800 dollar range.

Apple is so wonderful! Everything they make is better than the best better thing on the market. It’s like they can turn sh** into gold and platinum at the same time. Apple FTW!

  • AgBand

    @ Jon:

I agree! I once was blind, but Steve Jobs touched my head and gave me the ability to see. I was then shown a piece of crap and Steve Jobs touched it and it instantly turned to gold!

Oh what? Apple decided that “netbook” IS a good idea – I think Ive said this before that Apple was gonna do this, after saying they werent.

Either way for me, I now have a PC netbook, and an old iBook – in all honesty, Apple took too long for me to invest in any of their products. Cant keep the same thing, change the style and expect me to buy it.

I would love to be able to touch my mbp screen and do more than leave a finger print.

  • oldmanhorton

Steve Jobs may not know how to make one, but Tim Cook may

Way to hop on the netbook bandwagon Apple.
A market dominated by price conscious consumers.

Only apple can make it happen, their abundace of fanboys is unparalleled

  • maxpayne79

why do they always make em so small???
why can’t they just turn a 24″ imac into a touch screen device.
That would be soooo much fun to use.
    Just imagine touch screen games.
    GTA V baby…fully interactive.
    That’s my kind of a game. :)

I’d like to see what they end up cookin up. can’t wait.

but i bet they will be in a more expensive range than normal netbooks. which is kinda pointless for me.

The fact that Snow Leopard tweaking emphasizes improved clock cycles and efficiency suggest they thought about running it in a device with less CPU power.
The Starbucks that always featured Apple users now has its coolest using netbooks…
    Need I say more?

  • henry

    That’ll be awesome… Can’t wait to hace one… Ja!

I think this guy’s take on the rumor is probably closer to the truth:

    http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/160959/rumored_apple_device_probably_wont_be_a_netbook.html

Apple will not build something like the current Netbooks in the current price range.

Now this will be nice if it happens:

If Apple wants to do something revolutionary this year, they should sell the OS to allow people to build their own machines without resorting to Hackintosh methods.

Umm didn’t they say that weren’t in the market netbooks?

Maybe…they will build a car with a iphone……OS….and build it under the General Motors name and save the US auto industry….

    I think I like my rumor better…..:-)

  • iPhoneJunkie

I’m with the post below me. I couldve swarn that Apple said they weren’t into that? Let’s see what they come out with, if anything they need to revamp the iPhone with something to compete against the so called competition, the Pre.

its apple its probably going to be $1500 or around that range, if apple really wants to compete in prices lower them

  • Mike M.

Lol @ all the Apple fanoys.

    and @ iPhoneJunkie.

“so called” competition ? Of course it’s competition, just look at the specs, it’s obvious. ’nuff said. I’m not picking sides, but i’m just stating the facts really.

i think apple must have dumped a load of cash into the whole unibody thing with the air and so now the macbook and mb pros are all unibody.
expect the netbook to be a..drum roll unibody..

btw is it just me or are the new keyboards rubbish compared to the sooo cool old skool macpro aluminum ones…also new pro’s don’t give free the remotes or the video out adapters…that sucks apple..not to mention new bateries dont have the cell charge checker built in…smacks of money cost saving apple????
