HTC Fuze makes it way into AT&T stores

Rumor

Rest easy, HTC fans – it looks like AT&T is starting to get its first shipments of the HTC Fuze. We got a hold of some of pictures showing the Fuze sitting pretty in its AT&T packaging, just waiting for its launch date so it can officially go on sale. It’s so close you can practically taste it. How many of you will be hitting AT&T tomorrow morning to see if you score one of these bad boys for yourself? Hit the jump for a few more shots of the Fuze!

@Ryan Everhard well I might even consider getting this phone. Sony ericsson for awhile has offered cool(g900,g700,c702), sometimes affordable solutions in spite of internal disconnect btwn both companies. But damn, lol, the fuze is somewhat the same as the xperia under the skin (probably the camera is not as good in the htc nor does it have that neat panel interface). In deed like nick said, the Htc is one damn hot phone, though I’m sure half of us would prefer non-contractual affiliation. This phone is truely tempting..especially when you consider the whooper of a price that bestbuy is asking for the Xperia

None the less. I’m sure other online stores will sell the xperia nam for less.

Perhaps its best to sit and wait alittle more for the xperia which is supposedly dropping next month?

or convert from ericsson to Htc and get some of the same thing for 200 dollars less.

p.s. I was the proud owner of a w810i and now own a k850i (anyone buying? lol)

@Ben According to the boy geniuses themselves and their dead on sources , the Xperia is touching down at least in Bestbuy on dec.7th.

Also my initial thought would be that at&t won’t pick up the xperia b/c it might cannibalize the sales of the fuze but I could be wrong. But supposedly their is a omnia like phone on it way.

I apologize for overfocusing on the xperia here :) . I’ll pose a better question under the xperia pricing post

This phone murders the iphone. The iphone is very buggy and not even that great. It scratches super easy and the lack of a keyboard honestly hurts it. I used to be all about the touch keyboard but it gets old, and you’ll miss the dedicated keyboard.

    Sue me…I’m old LOL

  • Rusty

I’m not into “instant gratification” anymore.
I’m way too old for that. After any “bugs” have been worked out, price comes down a bit, then I’ll grab it.

The Fuze is now available on att’s website there is a promo code that gives you 25 percent off the code is “25percent”.

Went into my local AT&T store today just to confirm that they’d have it available tomorrow. Some poorly informed sales clerk (or so I thought) told me they had it available today. After a 15 minute wait, lo and behold, he disappeared into the stock area and returned with one of the smallest AT&T boxes I’ve ever seen, containing an HTC Fuze. I’m surprised that it’s actually branded HTC, I’d always assumed it was going to be the AT&T Fuze. Pretty impressive device tho. 640 * 480 screen is beautiful (tho not as much so as the BB Bold) Oddly enough, it hampers Opera Mobile a bit, as without the stylus I had trouble selecting the exact link I wanted. Pretty quick phone. The keyboard is almost flush, but works REALLY well, my favorite of all of them in the store. Almost left the store with it at 350 before rebate w/ a 2 year commitment. 10% restocking fee threw me off tho, as I’m waiting to cash in my BB Storm pre-order. The Fuze is nothing game changing, but just fast, crisp, Win Mo 6.1. I’m expecting the Storm’s navigation/execution paradigm to be an advancement of the state of the art…thus, I wait.

Just purchased the Fuze nearby in Orange, CT. Great buy for me with student discount, 2-year contract (my Verizon contract ended 6 months ago, thank God) at $300 after mail-in rebate.

A bit disappointed at first, but I’m sure that will change as I get to know the phone better.

    First take:
I used my university discount until I merge with my family’s family plan. (can be done over the phone; I now have a temporary number…annoying)

I’m disappointed with the dongle. Now I need to buy an adapter if I don’t want a mini-brick hanging off the bottom to use headphones or a headset. Annoying.

Also, I don’t like TouchFLO, even though I thought it would. That might change with time…I guess I’m just accustomed to the standard WM5/6 look.

I briefly considered downgrading to the Epix, but given the impressive hardware specs of this device, that would just be silly! I can always find a cooked ROM that makes my Fuze close to stock WM6 if I really want to. (don’t flame me, please!)

I haven’t tried the FM radio.

I’m very, very slightly disappointed there’s no front-facing camera, like on the European version.

There is no YouTube application in the Games and Programs folder. I’ll have to download that.

Also, there’s a very faint outline around the D-pad that has two arrows on it to indicate that you can zoom; I thought they were scratches at first! Well, I need a scratch protector/case ASAP. This thing is a fingerprint magnet.

I’m very glad it’s GSM and can be used worldwide. Huge change from my Verizon Treo 700w! I still miss the keyboard on the front. I’ll have to try some graphics-intensive applications and the GPS to make me really like the thing! I guess I’ll see how well TomTom does.

  • Who?

@Barrett: Don’t get an adapter, get a pair of bluetooth headphones. I use the Cardo S2. Very happy. Ditch the wires.

@People who are saying they’re going to wait for the “bugs” to get worked out and the price to drop: The price doesn’t drop until weeks before the next generation comes out (see Tilt). And AT&T and HTC don’t typically release bug fixes. It’s Windows Mobile 6.1, it’s been out for a while. You can wait until the price drops, but you’ll have moved on by then. Sure, at some point the Fuze will get 6.5, but the price will still be 299.99 nine or ten months after its release.

The iPhone is not even close to “new”.

I’ve been following the Fuze on Google Alerts & there was much chatter yesterday morning that the phone was arriving in stores yesterday and was already on sale – I had just dealt with a store in the more rural part of Birmingham and didn’t expect the rural stores to receive one of the first shipments, but in fact they did and emailed & called me to confirm they had plenty.

Since I was at a project meeting in another rural part of Birmingham on the opposite side of town, I took a chance and stopped by that local store and they had the Fuze and were already selling it so I purchased mine yesterday at 4:00 and worked with it most of the night getting it set up and learning the settings & software.

My 8525 died a few months ago so I had waited until I knew this would release within a month to replace it with a Tilt (30 days to exchange) – I had the Tilt for 4 days and hated it – the keyboard slid out on the opposite side was a serious pain given the habit I developed on the 8525 so I’m glad to be on the Fuze that slides out on the same side.

But… I’ll be honest – I see no benefit to some of the HTC Touch software such as the email and the programs and settings – I would much rather disable these and have the highly functional (no matter how graphically unappealing, they work) windows setup come up immediately without an extra button press to get there.

The business card scanner application totally rocks – I demonstrated it for my wife with 3 business cards and it got everything right except one error in one card.

I’ve been using the Touch Pro here in the UK for a month now having had an HP ipaq previously, my colleague went for the X1. The X1 is certainly lighter and has a bigger screen but as far as useability and speed of software the HTC wins hands down.

The keyboard is also 100 x better than the X1, I thought I would miss the keyboard on my ipaq but this is a big improvement.

Some people keep talking about “bugs” but on the system we have over here there really arn’t any to speak of.

Barrett, yes, get yourself a screen protector film and I would also recommend a silicone skin cover – you can get both from a guy selling them from Hong Kong on eBay for about $7.50.

We didn’t get the youtube application over here and if anyone can point me in the right direction I’d be grateful.

Touch Flo grows on you, as does the phone itself. The more you use it the better it gets. Thumbs up from me.

Wow man! You are a life saver. Saved me 90 bucks on this phone.
