The Xbox One is cheaper than ever, but you still shouldn’t buy it

If you haven’t bought a Xbox One yet, there’s really no point in doing so right now. Sure, it’s cheaper than it ever was – and practically a steal at $279, or $20 in savings compared to the previous discount. But you’d be better off waiting until August and pay $399 for the Xbox One S instead.

Microsoft’s new Xbox One pricing scheme is available right now, and the offer is valid through October 1st. There are various bundles priced between $279 and $349 on Xbox.com:

  • $279 Xbox One Special Edition Quantum Break Bundle (500GB) – down from $349
  • $279 Xbox One Name Your Game Bundle (500GB) – down from $349
  • $279 Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle (500GB) – down from $349
  • $279 Xbox One Special Edition Gears of War Bundle (500GB) – down from $349
  • $279 Xbox One The LEGO Movie Videogame Bundle (500GB) – down from $349
  • $279 Xbox One with Kinect (500GB) – down from $399
  • $299 Xbox One Triple Game Bundle (1TB) – down from $369

However, you should keep in mind that the Xbox One S has additional processing power compared to the Xbox One. It also supports 4K Blu-ray disks and Bluetooth controllers. The Xbox One S is available for preorder right now, and ships at some point in August.
