However, CNET brings our attention to a free Mac app called NetSpot that can give you a visual depiction of the places in your house where you’re least likely to get a strong Wi-Fi signal.

For this app to work, you’ll need to have a floor plan or area map that you can load onto the app’s network survey system. After you identify your location on the map, the app will then scan for Wi-Fi signal strength. You can then move around the area to scan all the major locations where you might try to set up a computer or other web-connected device. The app will then produce a map showing you the strength of your Wi-Fi signal in various locations that looks like this:
