Porsche goes on a hiring spree to get its Mission E ready to take on Tesla

Porsche’s plan to take on Tesla is about to kick into high-gear. A new report from Autoblog claims that the German-based automaker is ramping up its hiring by more than 50% in order to get its highly intriguing Mission E EV concept into production and on the road by 2020.

As it stands today, Porsche’s Mission E team currently boasts about 1,000 members. Looking ahead, Porsche is aiming to add 400 more people to the team in order to accelerate its development and production effort. What’s more, the report claims that Porsche “is also looking for roughly 100 IT specialists, 50 creatives and 70 more apprentices…”

While many auto manufacturers tend to talk a big game when it comes to EV development, there is no doubt that Porsche is more than willing to put its money where its mouth is. Not too long ago, for example, Porsche signaled its plan to invest more than $1.1 billion in factory upgrades in order to facilitate and ramp up Mission E production.

Word of Porsche’s intention to deliver the all-electric Mission E was first made public when concept renderings were released this past September. While final specs are obviously a ways off from being finalized, Porsche’s vision is ambitious to say the least. Per the concept, the Mission E will be an extremely sleek-looking car with 600 horsepower, jaw dropping acceleration, and an impressive driving range of 310 miles on a single charge. What’s more, Porsche’s anticipates that the Mission E will boast a re-charge time of just 15 minutes.

“With Mission E, we are making a clear statement about the future of the brand, company chairman Wolfgang Porsche said a few months back. “Even in a greatly changing motoring world, Porsche will maintain its front-row position with this fascinating sports car.”

Porsche has previously said that it wants to get the Mission E out on the road by 2020 and it will be interesting to see if the company can meet that deadline.
