See video of Nokia’s first new Android phone unboxed and powered on

Nokia 6 Unboxing Video

Earlier this week, HMD Global—the company that now owns the Nokia brand—unveiled its first phone: the Nokia 6. Not only will the Nokia 6 serve as HMD’s first phone, it will also be the first Nokia-branded Android phone ever produced. Unfortunately, there are no plans to release the phone outside of China at the moment, but on Thursday, YouTube channel TechDroider supplied the internet with an early look at the device.

Technically, this is the second unboxing video that TechDroider has uploaded this week, but the new video is of much higher quality than the first. In the video, we get a chance to see the contents of the box (the phone itself, the charger, headphones, a SIM eject tool and a few manuals) as well as the phone in action. While the demo of the phone is relatively short, we do get a chance to see Android 7.0 running on the device.

As HMD noted in a press release on Sunday, the Nokia 6 will feature an aluminum unibody, 5.5-inch Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with X6 LTE modem, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera and dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

At a glance, the Nokia 6 is nearly indistinguishable from any other modern smartphone, but considering this is the first new Nokia-branded phone since 2014, it’s understandable that HMD Global would play it safe.

According to a recent Facebook post, HMD plans to share more about the Nokia 6 on February 26th — the day before Mobile World Congress 2017 kicks off in Barcelona. We should learn more about the company’s other Android smartphones as well, hopefully including some that will launch internationally.
