Remember the awful days when gas cost more than $4 a gallon? Those seem like a distant memory, as AutoBlog notes that the average gas price in the United States has now fallen below $2 a gallon for the first time since the depths of the Great Recession in earl 2009. Given this, we thought we’d scope out gas prices in some major cities in the U.S. to see where prices have really hit rock bottom. If you’re travelling by car for the holidays this year, you’ll want to make sure you fill up on this dirt-cheap gas while you can!

In Houston, gas prices are as low as $1.49 per gallon and are averaging $1.75 per gallon. Here’s a look at the lowest prices in different locations:
Detroit is another city that’s enjoying low gas prices right now, as a gallon costs $1.87 on average:
Gas prices in Kansas City, meanwhile, are averaging $1.67 a gallon and there are many locations where you can get gas for under $1.60 a gallon:
The Mile-High City is also blessed with low gas prices at the moment, as you can see in this chart of prices in Denver:
The lowest gas prices I could find, however, are in Plainview, Texas, where several locations are selling gas for under $1.50 a gallon as of this writing:
