I made a huge mistake this morning.

After BGR editor Brad Reed pointed out that Burger King had recently released its spiciest burger ever, I mentioned that I lived right across the street from a Burger King. Two hours later, I was in line ordering the Angriest Whopper combo, complete with small fries, a Sprite to drink and a burger that had been dyed red.

Ok, to be fair, only the bun was red, but that’s more red dye than I’ve ever had on a burger before. Apparently, the color is meant to signify the fact that hot sauce was baked into the bun. Between the buns, you’ll find “flame-grilled beef, piled high with thick-cut bacon, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, angry onion petals, jalapeños, creamy mayonnaise and spicy angry sauce.”

I think this ridiculous commercial from BK does it justice:

What you see at the top of this post is what I was handed when I ordered the Angriest Whopper at my local Burger King restaurant. Now, let’s compare that to the advertisement on BK.com:

Admittedly, I expected much worse, but I wasn’t jumping out of my seat to get started. Still, I needed to know what made this burger so much angrier than the original Angry Whopper. Upon taking my first bite, I managed to snag a majority of the ingredients, including the jalapeños that were meant to set my mouth on fire.

I wouldn’t consider myself to be a connoisseur of spicy food, but I like a meal that has a kick to it. Sadly, the Angriest Whopper didn’t quite live up to its name, as I was able to scarf down a majority of the burger without needing a sip to drink. Coming from a massive chain, I wasn’t expecting to walk away with my eyes watering, but I definitely wanted more than some scattered peppers and a red bun.

Honestly, I’m still not sure I know what makes this burger so angry, but if you’re looking for a relatively spicy burger weighing in at 830 calories and 1530mg of sodium, you could do much worse than the Angriest Whopper.

Plus, you can show everyone the wrapper after you’re done:
