Windows 10 is awesome… but don’t buy a new Windows 10 laptop right now

Windows 10 Best Laptops To Buy

Windows 10 has been getting rave reviews from people who have upgraded their machines from Windows 7 and Windows 8. But what if you’re looking to get a brand-new laptop that runs Windows 10 — what’s your best option? According to The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern, the answer right now is that you shouldn’t buy a new Windows 10 laptop for at least another few months.

DON’T MISS: I just watched my smartphone case heal itself from scratches

The reason for this is pretty simple: Machines with Intel’s new Skylake processors are expected to come out later this year and they’ll likely be worth waiting for.

In case you haven’t heard, the new processors are poised to deliver 41% faster graphics on PCs while also offering significant boosts to battery life. Stern says that this, combined with a fairly lackluster lineup of early Windows 10 laptops, is enough reason to hold off buying for now.

“Laptop makers need more time with the operating system — recovering from the zig-zag of Windows 8 to Windows 10 requires more retooling and new features require improved hardware,” she writes. “I’m expecting a new Microsoft Surface and more laptops by the holidays, all made especially for Windows 10. That means webcams that can support Microsoft’s new facial recognition, trackpads that work better with the new gestures and microphones that let Cortana hear you better.”

Nonetheless, if you’re really desperate to buy a Windows 10 laptop now, Stern has written up some impressions of early models on the market. Check out her whole piece by clicking here.
