Ever since 4.6 million Snapchat users were subjected to a leak that threatened to reveal their phone numbers, the team behind the app has been scrambling to repair both the vulnerabilities of Snapchat and the image of their company. It started with an apology and an update, one which allowed users to opt out of the “Find Friends” feature that gave hackers the opportunity to corral millions of phone numbers in the first place.
According to TechCrunch, Snapchat took its security measures a step further recently by adding a Captcha-like test which requires users to verify their accounts by selecting a series of images containing the familiar ghost mascot. It puts one more wall between users and potential hackers, and shows that Snapchat is finally conscious of the flaws within its app. It might not solve the problem entirely, but any improvements to security are welcome.
