Samsung announces GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY S II HD LTE and Omnia W smartphones

Samsung on Monday unveiled three new smartphones in South Korea, the GALAXY S II LTE and GALAXY S II HD LTE Android phones, and the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango-powered Omnia W. The GALAXY S II HD LTE is Samsung’s first GALAXY-branded smartphone to feature a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display, with a pixel count coming in at 1280 x 720 equal to 316 ppi. It also features a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of memory, an 8-megapixel camera with support for 1080p HD video capture, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and, as its mouthful of a name might suggest, 4G LTE support. The Samsung GALAXY S II LTE features specs that are nearly identical to the S II HD LTE, but the giant Super AMOLED HD display has been replaced by a nearly-as-giant 4.5-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus panel. The result will likely be a slightly less expensive price point but no real benefit in terms of pocketability.

Last up from South Korea Monday morning, Samsung took the wraps off the Omnia W, the international version of the Samsung Focus Flash headed to AT&T. The Omnia W features a 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display, a 1.4GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera, 8GB of internal storage and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system.

The just-announced GALAXY phones will launch in South Korea ahead of other markets and the Omnia W will launch as the Focus Flash on AT&T this fall. No other pricing or availability details have been made available.
