NYT: No new Apple TV hardware at WWDC 2015

New Apple TV WWDC 2015

The list of things to get excited about during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference next week appears to be shrinking by the day. In a report on Wednesday, The New York Times revealed that Apple has been forced to postpone its plans to introduce new Apple TV hardware and a toolkit for app developers to go along with it.

Instead, Apple will use its time on stage to discuss improvements to its Apple Watch app platform for third-party developers, additions to iOS and OS X (likely including the reveal of iOS 9) and the debut of a streaming music service to compete with the likes of Spotify and Pandora.

It’s a shame we won’t get to see the long-awaited revival of the Apple TV, but now Apple will have more time to work on the necessary deals to make its streaming service a reality. By that time, the set-top box itself should be ready for primetime as well.
