A new report from The Wall Street Journal claims that Apple may have some interesting surprises in store when it unveils its next-gen iPhone lineup later this year.

Specifically, the Journal corroborates a previous report indicating that the Force Touch technology already built into the Apple Watch and the soon to be released MacBook may also be implemented on the iPhone 6s. As a quick refresher, Force Touch functionality would allow the iPhone to not only detect when the display is being pressed, but to also detect the amount of pressure being applied, thereby opening up boundless new options for gesture commands.
Additionally, the Journal claims that Apple has no plans to release a new iPhone with a 4-inch display, a move which may soon render the venerable iPhone 5s the only remaining iPhone model for sale without a gargantuan display.
What’s more, Apple is reportedly toying with the idea of expanding the range of iPhone color options with a pink model.
Apple isn’t changing the size of the displays in the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones and plans to keep the resolution similar, but it may add another color for the aluminum casing of the iPhone, these people said. Currently, Apple offers the iPhone in three colors: silver, gold and space gray. It is testing a new pink option to the lineup, these people said.
While Apple is no stranger to using pink in its iPod lineup, it would certainly represent an interesting way to mix things up for the flagship iPhone. Indeed, with Apple’s newly announced MacBook now coming in three colors, perhaps its high time that the iPhone get a bit of a color shakeup as well.
As we reported previously, rumor has it that Apple was initially aiming to implement Force Touch on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus before being forced to put those plans on hold due to calibration hurdles. With those issues presumably ironed out, it certainly stands to reason that Apple’s next-gen iPhones will get the same Force Touch treatment recently bestowed upon the new 12-inch Retina MacBook.
As for other iPhone 6s rumors, there have also been rumblings that the next-gen iPhone may finally see a bump up to 2GB of RAM.
