Apple just hired a Chinese task force to stop iPhone 6 leaks

There has been no shortage of iPhone leaks leading up to the highly anticipated launch of Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup. Well-known insider Ming-Chi Kuo seemingly outed all of the key details surrounding Apple’s completely redesigned iPhone 6 and iPhone phablet back in April. Beyond that, we’ve seen dozens of mockups based on what are claimed to be schematics of Apple’s new iPhones that leaked from Foxconn.

But iPhone 6 leaks may soon be harder to come by — Apple has reportedly assembled a task force that will look to put an end to iPhone 6 leaks.

Insider Sonny Dickson published countless images of leaked components from unreleased iPhone and iPad models last year. He has been far more quiet so far this year as leaks continue to trickle out from other sources, and a pair of recent tweets may help explain why.

“Apple had asked Chinese authorities to catch those who are trying to leak i6,” Dickson posted on his Twitter account on Thursday night. “There are about 200 security officers trying to catch those who dare to sell i6 accessories.”

Apple’s unreleased products were at one time the most closely guarded in the world. Now, no major tech company’s devices leak more frequently or extensively. Apple’s supply chain and manufacturing partners are a big part of the problem, of course, and it looks like Apple is finally beginning to take additional measures to correct the situation.

With hundreds of thousands of workers involved with building Apple’s various products, however, plugging leaks is easier said than done.

Apple is expected to launch a brand new iPhone 6 with a new design and a 4.7-inch display this September, and then a larger iPhone phablet with a 5.5-inch screen will supposedly debut closer to the holidays.
