Sony is already a major supplier for Apple’s rear-facing iSight camera, but the Japanese electronics company might be looking to increase its presence within the iPhone even further in 2014. Nikkei Asian Review reports that Sony has doubled its supply of camera components for the next iPhone, a sign that Sony cameras might appear on both the front and the back of the iPhone 6. According to the report, Apple “apparently uses parts from suppliers in the U.S. and elsewhere for the front camera.” With the rise of video calls, Apple likely wants to focus on camera quality with future product launches, which is why Sony has been tapped for increased production. Very little of the report has been confirmed, but if the sources are legitimate, Sony could provide more than 200 million CMOS sensors to Apple annually within the next few years.
