Upcoming Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Android 5.1 update to bring missing Android feature

Samsung will update some of its devices to Android 5.1 Lollipop in the near future, starting with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge flagships. According to SamMobile, the update will bring a major Android feature that’s currently unavailable on the phones, even though other Lollipop devices from the competition have it.

For some reason, Samsung kept out of its Lollipop updates the Guest Mode for smartphones that Google introduced with Android 5.0. The feature lets you easily lend someone else your phone or tablet, including children, without accessing your data – then again, Samsung does have a Kids Mode on many of its devices, including the Galaxy S6 models.

The publication said it already tested an unstable Android 5.1 build for the Galaxy S6 edge, finding Guest Mode to work exactly as it does on stock Android. “Each user will have his/her own personal space, with the option to install their own apps, personalize their homescreen, and even secure their setup with their fingerprint,” SamMobile writes.

It’s not clear at this time when Samsung and its carrier partners will start rolling out the Android 5.1 update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, but, strangely enough, at least one xda-developers user reported that an Android 5.1.1 has reached his T-Mobile Galaxy S6 edge smartphone.

“Just received the 5.1.1 [over-the-air download],” user Sunderwear said. “Look at the kernel build date. This thing was cooked up YESTERDAY. Device feels a lot snappier!! This is the T-Mobile branded one.”

A video showing Android 5.1.1 Lollipop running on the Galaxy S6 edge follows below.
