This could be great for any New Yorkers in need of a new free Wi-Fi fix. “Venerable” television and entertainment network CBS has just announced their plans to blanket a large portion of Midtown with wireless Internet coverage. The zone will cover a rectangular space from Times Square to Central Park, and fit nicely between 6th and 8th Avenues. CBS will be installing routers of their own, as well as offering free equipment to any business that’s willing to support the cause. There is, of course, a bit of a catch, as CBS will be shooting contextual ads along with the free web access. That said, free is free, right? No word on projected rollout, but we’ll keep our ears to the street on this one.
