Late last month, the FCC approved AT&T’s acquisition of DirecTV, and the merger was completed shortly after. Not only did AT&T become the “largest pay TV provider” in the country, it also gained hundreds of thousands of new customers that might be willing to switch over to its wireless phone service as well.

In order to tempt DirecTV customers to drop their phone service providers and make the switch, this week AT&T began offering $300 bill credits for every line that a customer brings to AT&T, as well as an additional trade-in credit of $200 for handing over their old phone. In order to receive the $300 credit, the customer will need to purchase a new phone on AT&T Next as well.
So as not to fracture its user base, AT&T will be extending the same offer to U-verse subscribers as well.
AT&T will also give customers who participate in this promotion 10,000 Plenti points if they combine their DirecTV or U-verse TV and AT&T wireless services on a single bill.
Here’s how it works, according to AT&T: “If a family of four with DirecTV or U-verse TV switches four lines from their current wireless carrier to AT&T, buys and activates a new smartphone on AT&T Next for each line and also trades in 4 eligible smartphones per line, they’ll get $2,000 in total credits.”
This is a limited time offer, so if you’re already paying for DirecTV or U-verse and want to change your wireless service, take action soon.
