Apple’s mobile payment solution Apple Pay will someday be among several similar offerings that are ubiquitous in the United States. These great mobile device-based payment solutions will be accepted everywhere and consumers will no longer need to carry credit cards or even cash. But as we said in our recent coverage of a smart card called Coin, that future is still far off in the distance.

In the meantime, most retail establishments don’t accept Apple Pay. So, if you want to use Apple’s new mobile payment solution, you’ll first need to figure out whether or not it even works in the store you’re visiting.

Now, figuring that out is easier than ever thanks to a free iPhone app called Chameleon.

First released in late October this year by ShopPad, Chameleon is a nifty shopping assistant that was recently updated with a very smart feature.

“Chameleon, the app for in-store shopping, now informs shoppers when the store they are in accepts Apple Pay and explains how to use it with simple step-by-step instructions,” a company spokesperson wrote in an email to BGR. “By eliminating the guesswork, shoppers can now enjoy Apple Pay while dashing through the stores this holiday season.”

The full app description follows below, and then you’ll find a direct link to download and install the app.

Chameleon is your trusty shopping companion every time you go out shopping.

First, you’ll get points for opening Chameleon when you walk in to retailers like Target, Best Buy, Sears, Kmart, Toys-R-Us, Babies-R-Us and more. You’ll earn a $5 gift card for every 20 points you collect. Easy-peasy!

Then, Chameleon will give you helpful features tailored to the store you’re in:
– Search for products in the store and see which aisle they’re on
– See when the store you’re in accepts Apple Pay
– Check real-time inventory status
– Read reviews and ratings for millions of products
– Deals and coupons that you can redeem right from your iPhone
– Guided mall maps that include amenities such as nearby bathrooms, elevators and – of course – the quickest route to the Apple store

Chameleon works at thousands of stores with new locations being added every week
