Is it 2007 or 2017 right now? After its Wii U console was a dismal failure, Nintendo has seemingly managed to recapture the magic it found back in late 2006 when it released the original Wii console. Gamers were blown away by the new motion-based gaming experience. In fact, it was so novel and exciting that people off all ages who had never had any interest at all in gaming rushed to retailers around the world to try to get their hands on Nintendo’s awesome new console.
The Switch might not be quite as novel as Nintendo’s Wii was a decade ago, but the buzz surrounding the new gaming system is certainly reminiscent of the Wii. The Switch is still next to impossible to get your hands on, of course, but we have some good news for gaming fans in search of a system: This weekend, you’ll finally get your chance to buy a Switch… but you’ll have to act fast.
First things first… there’s only one way to buy a new Switch right now and guarantee that you’ll have it in your hands anytime soon, and that’s Amazon. Head over to the Nintendo Switch with Gray Joy-Con page or the Nintendo Switch with Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con page and click the “see all buying options” button. Note that any prices you see there that are at or under retail are scams. Make sure you only buy the console from reputable sellers with plenty of feedback, and be prepared to pay a premium.
Now, if you want to save some money and roll the dice, a new opportunity to buy the Nintendo Switch at a brick and mortar store will present itself this weekend. Toys”R”Us will have limited Switch stock in stores across the country, and the company expects them to sell out shortly after stores open on Saturday morning.
“For those who may have missed out on the initial launch, Toys”R”Us stores nationwide are receiving new shipments of Nintendo Switch this Saturday, March 25.” A Toys”R”Us spokesperson told BGR in an email. “We recommend customers get in line early, as we expect these units to be snapped up quickly when the doors open at 9am.”
GameStop received some Switch shipments earlier this week and Nintendo has said that it is doubling production with its manufacturing partners, but you should still expect the Nintendo Switch console to be in very short supply for the foreseeable future.
