Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VIII is still far, far away, but there’s already plenty of chatter surrounding the second part of the third trilogy. Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII will finally tell us why Luke secluded himself on that distant planet and who Rey’s parents are. And it’s pretty safe to assume that Episode VIII will bring up even more questions that will only be answered in Episode IX. But yes, it already looks like there’s an epic cliffhanger at the end of it, an ending of Empire Strikes Back proportions. That’s the episode where Luke learns who his father is, which was obviously a huge shock for audiences.

Actor Warwick Davis told News.com.au that he has a part in Episode VIII, without divulging what it is. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve seen him in various Star Wars episodes, albeit under several masks. He was an Ewok in Return of the Jedi, he played Anakin’s friend Wald, and he was Weazel in The Phantom Menace. He also had a cameo in The Force Awakens and will have a role in Rogue One, which premieres this December.
Given his experience with the Star Wars universe, it’s not surprising to hear him talk about Episode VIII. And he thinks Episode VIII has a cliffhanger that’s on par with Empire Strike Back.
“There were some wonderful moments, some moving moments and it was full of all the action that we expect, so for me, it ticked all the boxes, I loved it,” he said about The Force Awakens. “And I think it sets up the trilogy very well. Obviously, we’re moving into the territory of Episode VIII very soon as well, and much like Empire Strikes Back I’m sure it’s going to deliver some quite impactful story moments, and it’ll leave us with some cliffhangers as well which resolve in Episode IX.”
Episode VIII will be released next winter and Episode IX is scheduled for a late 2019 premiere.
