What is Leave The World Behind about?
Leave The World Behind follows the story of a family whose lives are upended after a devastating cyberattack throws the entire world into chaos. The film features a packed cast including Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, and Myha’la.
In this apocalyptic thriller from award-winning writer and director Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), Amanda (Academy Award winner Roberts) and her husband Clay (Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke), rent a luxurious home for the weekend with their kids, Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie). Their vacation is soon upended when two strangers — G.H. (Academy Award winner Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) — arrive in the night, bearing news of a mysterious cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house they claim is theirs. The two families reckon with a looming disaster that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world. Based on the National Book Award-nominated novel by Rumaan Alam, Leave the World Behind is produced by Esmail Corp, Red Om Films, and executive produced by Higher Ground Productions.
The more I see about this movie, the more I am up for it. The film kind of reminds me of the War of the Worlds film that Tom Cruise was in. The special effects look phenomenal, but the story appears grounded and focused on the event from the perspective of a family undergoing the disaster. This one has some real potential to be one of the truly great disaster movies.
Leave The World Behind will premiere in select theaters in November before its debut on Netflix on Friday, December 8th. If you want to watch the film in the best quality possible when it comes to the streaming service, check out our list of the Best TVs and Best Soundbars.
