Sonos makes what are, without question, some of the hottest speakers in the world right now. The company’s speakers all sound incredible and the offer a user experience that is second to none. Think about how difficult (and even more expensive) it was to wire an entire house for sound before Sonos came along and reinvigorated the industry. Now, however, rival speaker makers have been catching up and many of them offer speakers that rival Sonos’ offerings at much lower prices.
Here’s a perfect example: a big leak on Twitter just revealed the upcoming new Sonos PlayBase, a very cool speaker base that’s essentially a sound bar your TV can sit on. But a leaked retail listing that popped up on Zatz Not Funny alongside the photos shows that this nifty new speaker is going to cost a whopping $699. Of course, another option is to buy the Bose Solo 15 Series II TV Sound System, an incredibly well-reviewed TV sound base with stellar sound and a price tag that’s about half what Sonos will charge for the PlayBase.
Here are some highlights from the product listing:
- Dramatically better sound than your TV: detailed dialogue, wide soundstage, deep bass
- Setup is easy with only one connection to your TV
- Single speaker fits under most TVs up to 50 inches or on an open shelf
- Bluetooth connectivity is built in so you can stream music wirelessly
- Includes universal remote for seamless control of many devices
