Over the weekend, Nintendo Everything discovered via an Amazon listing that Nintendo was partnering with popular accessory maker HORI to bring officially branded SD cards to the Nintendo Switch. Unsurprisingly, these cards are overpriced, so regardless of whether or not they make their way west, you should avoid them at all costs. Instead, read on for our suggestions of SD cards you should get for your Switch.
SanDisk Ultra 200GB microSDXC
If you want the most bang for your buck, look no further than SanDisk’s 200GB microSDXC card. You’ll be hard pressed to find a 256GB card significantly under $200 and most 128GB cards cost upwards of $40. Considering how much smaller the standard Switch game will be compared to the massive size of games on PS4 and Xbox One, a 200GB card should be the sweet spot for price and storage.
SanDisk Extreme PLUS 32GB microSDXC
Not sure how much additional storage you’re going to need, but don’t want to run out of room on your Switch day one? You might be better off picking up a supremely affordable 32GB card from SanDisk instead.
Samsung EVO+ 256GB microSDXC
On the other hand, if you’re fairly confident you’re going to download every game that looks even somewhat intriguing, a 256GB card from Samsung might be your best bet. If the 2017 lineup for the Nintendo Switch stays as sparse as it looks right now, 256GB should be plenty to hold everything that hits the console.
PNY Elite 128GB microSDXC
If you want a reasonable chunk of storage and are willing to take a (minor) risk, you can save some money by picking up PNY’s 128GB microSDXC card instead of a 128GB card from one of the bigger brands.
SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDXC
Last (but certainly not least), we have the highest rated SD card on Amazon. This 64GB card retails for $60, but at the time of writing, you can pick one up for a measly $21. If you don’t plan of shoving your Switch full of digital games, 64GB should tide you over for a good long while.
