With each new flagship smartphone generation unveiled in 2015 and the first half of 2016, Samsung has made great strides in pushing its product lines forward. Gone are the days of $600+ smartphones that feel like cheap toys. In their place, Samsung has launched gorgeous hardware built out of glass and metal. Inside, even more progress has been made thanks to cutting-edge components and Super AMOLED displays that remain best in class.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are the latest new Samsung flagships to steal the spotlight from rival smartphones, but now it looks like we know exactly when Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy Note 7 will arrive to take center stage from the S7 family.

Samsung news blog SamMobile has a good track record when it comes to reporting Samsung’s plans surrounding unannounced devices, and the blog might have just uncovered the most important date on Samsung’s calendar in the second half of 2016. According to a leaked image that seemingly shows an event invitation Samsung is in the process of whipping up, the upcoming new Galaxy Note 7 will be unveiled during a press conference in New York on August 2nd.
Here’s the image in question:
As was the case in 2015, it appears as though Samsung plans to put more space between its new flagship phablet and the launch of Apple’s updated iPhones, which are typically released in late September. An August 2nd announcement and a release soon after could give the Galaxy Note 7 about a month on store shelves before the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are launched.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 — the “Galaxy Note 6” name will reportedly be skipped to align Samsung’s Note family with the Galaxy S family — is expected to feature a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution and curved edges just like the Galaxy S7 edge. Other rumored specs include a new Snapdragon 823 processor, an iris scanner in addition to a fingerprint scanner, a large 4,000 mAh battery and IP68 water and dust resistance.
The design of the graphics in the event invitation above (if it is indeed authentic) appears to suggest that the Note 7 will indeed feature a display with curved edges. Of course, the wording — “the next edge is just around the corner” — doesn’t leave much room for interpretation.
