The R-rated superhero movie was a tremendous hit at the box office, grossing $757 million worldwide, more than anybody could have anticipated, and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, as Entertainment Weekly points out.
Unfortunately, Deadpool fans will still have to wait for a concrete release date for Deadpool 2, as Fox did not make any specific announcements. The studio teased that a Fox Marvel Project is scheduled for 2017, which could be either a Gambit movie, or a “rushed Deadpool 2,” as EW puts it. The Gambit movie was supposed to hit theaters this October, but the movie is currently postponed.
Fox also showed off a new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is premiering next month, revealing that Quicksilver’s father is indeed Michael Fassbender’s Magneto and that Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique has a major role in the upcoming X-Men movie.
