Though the smartphone market today has no shortage of capable devices, the unveiling of a new iPhone every 12 months seems to uniquely capture the attention of tech enthusiasts in a way that presumably makes companies like Microsoft and Samsung more than just a little bit jealous. Each and every year in September, for many years now, the collective gaze and focus of the tech world always seems to hone in on whatever new innovations and technologies Apple introduces with its latest and greatest iPhone.

With Apple slated to introduce the highly anticipated iPhone 7 later this year, the company will once again find itself in the tech spotlight. Indeed, that spotlight may shine a little bit brighter this year due to the fact that year over year iPhone sales in 2016 may drop for the first time in history. As a result, the pressure will be on Apple to deliver an extremely compelling upgrade that will not only excite consumers but will also help boost sales significantly.
With the iPhone 7 introduction likely just seven months away, we’re starting to see more and more reports surrounding the device’s more interesting features. To this end, a recent report from the Japanese blog MacOtakara seems to corroborate much of what we’ve already heard about what Apple’s next-gen iPhone will bring to the table.
Here’s what we know.
According to the report, the iPhone 7 camera will sit flush with the device, thereby eliminating an uncharacteristic design sore that existed on both the iPhone 6 and 6s. If this rumor pans out, and Apple is able to increase camera quality while at the same time making the camera module thinner, that would undoubtedly be a tremendous engineering feat.
Echoing a report from earlier in the week, MacOtakara also notes that the company’s dual-camera technology will be a feature exclusive to the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, thus providing an incentive for users to upgrade to Apple’s higher-margined device.
Aesthetically, we can expect the iPhone to get even thinner this year, with the report indicating that the iPhone 7 will be about 1mm thinner than the current iPhone 6s. What’s more, the website corroborates a slew of reports indicating that Apple with the iPhone 7 will completely do away with the tried and true 3.5mm headphone jack, instead relying upon the device’s Lightning port for audio-out. And in an effort to keep the device as thin as can be, the report adds that the Lightning port itself may be thinner that what we’ve previously seen on other iPhone models.
Interestingly, and in stark contrast to a number of other rumors, MacOtakara claims that the iPhone 7 will not be waterproof, a feature many other sites over the past few months have alluded to. As a final point of interest, the report claims that the iPhone 7 will come with stereo speakers.
Other iPhone 7 rumors we’ve seen that weren’t mentioned in the MacOtakara report include the following: Apple’s iPhone 7 will support wireless charging, will come with more RAM, will be available in a 256GB model, will have no unsightly antenna lines, and will feature a larger capacity battery.
