Samsung fans hoping that next year might bring us a completely revamped Galaxy S7 smartphone are in for a bit of a disappointment, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal. It makes sense that next year’s flagship phone would be very similar to this year’s model though, considering the fact that the Galaxy S6 was completely redesigned from the ground up.
There is some good news, however. According to WSJ’s report, Samsung plans to add some great new features to next year’s flagship Galaxy phone — and as you might have guessed, one of them will reportedly be a carbon copy of the best new feature in Apple’s iPhone 6s.
DON’T MISS: One simple but brilliant trick will force you to save money
According to The Wall Street Journal’s Jonathan Cheng, Samsung plans to release its next-generation Galaxy S7 smartphone in March 2016. The timing is in line with previous Galaxy S series phone launches, and it will give Samsung’s new flagship phone plenty of time on store shelves before Apple releases its completely redesigned iPhone 7 later in the year.
And speaking of iPhones, Cheng says that one of the standout features of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will be… you guessed it… a pressure-sensitive display. Rumors had popped up a few times prior to this report suggesting that Samsung’s 2016 flagship phone would mimic 3D Touch, and now it looks like the news is as good as confirmed.
Beyond 3D Touch, the report states that Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S phone will also feature a USB Type C port that supports lightning-fast charging. According to the report, the Galaxy S7 will be able to pull in a full day’s charge in under 30 minutes. Samsung is also supposedly toying with the idea of including a retina scanner of some sort in its new flagship phones, but WSJ says that feature isn’t set in stone. Similar reports emerged from The New York Times ahead of this past year’s Galaxy S6 debut, but the feature was nowhere to be found when the phone was announced.
Finally, the report claims Samsung will launch two different versions of the new S7 phone, a Galaxy S7 and a Galaxy S7 edge with a display that is curved at the edges.
