Still clinging to your old grandfathered unlimited data plan on AT&T? Then get ready to pay more for it. 9to5Mac is reporting that AT&T is going to start charging users with grandfathered unlimited data plans an extra $5 per month starting in February. While no one wants to pay more for their monthly data, having a plan with unlimited LTE that costs just $35 a month is still a very good deal, especially when you consider that T-Mobile just raised the rates of its own unlimited data plans to $45 a month. Verizon, meanwhile, recently raised the price of its grandfathered unlimited data plans from $30 to $50 a month.

All the same, there’s no doubt that AT&T would love if users who still have their legacy plans would switch over to a capped plan. Unfortunately for the carrier, most of these users have been forsaking the temptations of smartphone subsidies for years because they simply don’t want to have to deal with the threat of monthly data overages.
AT&T has now confirmed that it will be raising its prices starting in February 2016 and the carrier notes that this is the first time it’s raised prices on these plans in seven years. All told, it’s hard to feel too sorry for AT&T unlimited data users at this point, especially in comparison to what the rest of us are paying for mobile data.
