Samsung has successfully captured a huge portion of the smartphone market, and a recent trademark filing indicates that the Korean company will be looking to provide its customers with more extensive protection for their devices in the future. Samsung filed a trademark on October 15th for an unannounced service entitled Samsung Protection Plus, which is described very vaguely as “providing extended warranties on consumer electronic products and consumer appliances.” Although the details end there, Android Community thinks the potential is there for Samsung to begin offering a Genius Bar-like service at its Samsung Experience Shops, giving Samsung users the option to bring their phones and other devices in to be repaired or traded in for new hardware. We will keep an eye out for Samsung’s official word on Protection Plus.
