Is Hulu even trying to compete with Netflix anymore? There are days when you really have to wonder. While Netflix is offering up a barrage of critically acclaimed exclusive series such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, Hulu is offering up… well, pretty much nothing that people are getting excited about.

The Information has come out with a new report claiming that Hulu has just cancelled a major project that Hulu executives had hoped would be its answer to House of Cards, the hugely successful drama starring Kevin Spacey that has helped Netflix boost its subscription numbers. The project was apparently based on material written by author Dennis Lehane, whose books have spawned several hit movies in recent years including Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island.

The Information also says that Hulu has suffered from “continued executive turmoil and mixed messages about the site’s direction” that “have left some in Hollywood wondering whether the company has enough stability to follow through on its original programming plans.”

In all, it looks like Hulu won’t be getting its act together for quite some time and thus shouldn’t make anyone at Netflix worried. In fact, it looks like the only subscription-based streaming service capable of giving Netflix a run for its money at this point might be Amazon.
