HTC waves the white flag in U.S. tablet market

Believe it or not, HTC (2498) really has tried selling tablets somewhere in the United States over the past couple years. But now the company has realized that it has no plausible way to compete with Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN) or Google (GOOG) in the American tablet market and is pulling up its stakes. FierceWireless reports that HTC has officially stopped selling tablets in the U.S., although the company reserves to right to reenter the market if it comes up with something that it believes could really shake things up. Jeff Gordon, HTC’s global online communications manager, tells FierceWireless that selling tablets “was a great learning experience for us, and they definitely met expectations” and that “we’re watching that market very, very closely.”
