Apple to sell Lighting to HDMI and VGA adapters ‘in the coming months’

Apple Lightning HDMI VGA Adapters

Bummed iPhone 5 owners who quickly learned that the iPhone 5′s Lightning adapter doesn’t output video signals can finally let out a sigh of relief. It’s not ideal, but Apple (AAPL) will reportedly sell Lightning to HDMI and VGA cables “in the coming months,” according to The Verge. Based the iPhone 4S’s current 30-pin to HDMI adapter price, MacRumors postulates Apple might sell the new adapters for about $39. At launch, it would appear the only way to output video from the iPhone 5 to a TV display is via AirPlay, which requires an Apple TV. But that’s not all, according to Macotakara.jp the Lightning cable will have one other trick up its sleeve: USB hosting. A feature long reserved for the iPad to attach USB cameras and keyboards through the Camera Connection Kit, Macotara.jp believes the Lightning cable will be capable of doing the same thing on the iPhone 5.
