Apple may ditch 30-pin dock connector on iPhone and other iOS devices

mobile

Apple may be abandoning its 30-pin dock connector in future generations of its iPhone and other iOS devices, according to iMore. Apple’s new connector will reportedly be smaller, freeing up space from more important components such as bigger batteries and cellular radios. The website reports that the Cupertino-based company won’t opt for either micro-USB or Thunderbolt ports to replace the 30-pin port, and it is unclear what type of connections Apple will use. Following the launch of Apple’s iCloud and Wi-Fi iTunes sync services, the traditional dock connector has become less important since iOS 5 launched. The report claims the new micro-dock will most likely debut in the iPhone 5, although it is even possible it could be featured in Apple’s next-generation iPad 3, which is set to launch next month.

As if they’d be stupid enough to build there devices with a generic charging port. Guys, this is Apple, they’ll downsize the port, give it a fancy name, and make it only compatible with the next iDevices.

The apple connector does a lot more than just charging and data transfer, doesn’t it? I know it can do video streaming and such. Is it possible that micro USB just doesn’t have the ability to do everything they want? Micro USB has only 4 pins.

Yeah, I know my Ipad cannot charge on my son’s Iphone adapter…. BUT he can charge on my ipad one. They can’t even standardize amongst themselves!

Ashley W. Keith ahh right, yea I though you were talking about the actual apple chargers. I have had a few externally product problems where a message appears ‘this device is not compatible with this iPhone’ poor show tbh but I think it ain’t Apple’s fault, at least fully, its the manufacturers and Apple combined. Don’t hear a so called Apple ‘Fanboy’ say that everyday
