Apple iPad responsible for 1% of all web traffic, 2.1% of traffic in U.S.

mobile

According to a new report from NetMarketShare, the iPad accounts for 1% of global web traffic and 2.1% of web traffic in the United States — a figure that’s 53 times greater than its nearest tablet competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Similarly, its traffic is 76 times greater than that of the Motorola XOOM, and 306 greater than the BlackBerry PlayBook. In the United States, the iPad owns 25.5% of the mobile browser market, which is a smaller chunk than Android’s 31.6% share and the iPhone’s 35.2% market share. The research data is compiled from more than 160 million visitors accessing Net Applications’ network.

      Why?

Myself as well…It`s probaby based on browser hits rather than actual browsing. There is just no way.

If there wasn’t “an app for that”, mobile browsing would probably be a lot higher in general.

Where is average broswing traffic per unit? Gross comparison like this is pointless!! …that’s 53 times greater than its nearest tablet competitor

    • Anonymous

Why is gross comparison useless? Unless you are hypothesizing that certain tablets browse the internet more per unit than other tablets (which is unlikely with the iPad, given all the web browsing-circumventing apps), the gross comparison shows how much more in use iPads are than competing tablets.

simply comparing units sold by different tablet makers will yield the same conclusion. Isn’t it true that total miles clocked by all honda civics are a gazillion times more than total miles clocked by all fiat pandas?? Just another Apple ad as someone just pointed out!!

Impressive figures. Then again, there really hasn’t been much real competition yet. I was using only an iPad 3g from January until about a week ago and it certainly served me well. I do not really miss having a laptop much. I have now switched to an Android tablet. Once again, it appears that I wont need to pick up a laptop for a while…heck, my new job will probably give me one were I to need it. I greatly prefer the battery life and freedom to access information anywhere over more powerful computing that I don’t need. I know others need more but these tablets are perfect for me.

Is this a testament to the amount of iPads sold? or a testament to how poor the data compression is on apple products?

  • Bringit

There is no tablet market.  Only an iPad market.

…and 75% of that is the web version of FB because they don’t have a dedicated iPad app yet.

    How is this news worthy?

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com
