Sprint: HTC EVO 4G Gingerbread update landing June 3rd, OTA hits June 6th

mobile

Sprint announced on Thursday that the HTC EVO 4G will receive an over-the-air update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) on June 6th. Android 2.3 will reactivate the ability to sync multiple Gmail accounts on the EVO 4G, and will also improve download management and streaming media applications, among other changes. Want the update sooner? Here’s a little secret: you can download the update and install it manually beginning on June 3rd. Simply navigate to your phone’s settings menu, choose “system updates,” and then select “HTC software update.”

I love my EVO. But I’m torn between getting either the EVO 3D or the Motorola Photon…. Hmmm

      EVO 3D…guaranteed unlocked bootloader and MSM8660 > Tegra 2.

about damn time, too bad i have been rocking gingerbread minus the bloatware for months now running cyanogenmod 7

does removing that bloatware improve battery life at all?  I’ve been wondering if it’s worth doing.

      • http://twitter.com/k2four John Kraszewski

yes.  I see about 20% difference in battery life,

I have been running a version of cmxx.xx for at least 3 months, battery life using tiamat kernel with this is amazing. I can go about a day and a half with no charging.

Stock cannot offer that. Not with all the background processes for Nascar and football and all the garbage they constantly poll.

After updating to gingerbread I’ve noticed that NONE of the Sprint
applications are running. Not one. However, battery life hasn’t improved.
I may try your way, I’d love to not have this thing constantly plugged in.

“Android 2.3 will reactivate the ability to sync multiple Gmail accounts on the EVO 4G” – uh, what?  I have been using two gmail accounts on my EVO without any issues.

Congrats to all EVOOOO owners, got Gingerbread on my CRAPPPPPPPY DROID X earlier and guess what? It’s not CRAPPPPPPPY anymore. The improvements and enhancements are great and make this DROID X worthy of ownership; it seems that all those nasty little bugs I hated are gone.
With regard to the aforementioned EVO issues,
personally, I never had any issues when I had my EVOOOO; Gmail, or otherwise.

Dear Verizon: This is called supporting phones. Try it.

I… might be a little bitter.

I keep getting a “download unsuccessful” message.  I wonder if it’s because I’m rooted?

  • http://twitter.com/tomwayson Tom Wayson

FYI – The update seems to disable (v1.3.0).

My phone reboots and it looks like it’s unpacking the software when I get a large triangle with a yellow exclamation point inside. That’s it. I have to take the battery out for it to reboot. I did the unrevoked root. Could that be causing the failed update? I tried four times all with the same outcome.

    • Cbreezy1724

Yes thats why. Since ur evo is rooted u have to download the rooted gingerbread software in order to keep ur free wireless hotspot and other goodies

  • FunnyCorperate

this is Bulls*** you release 2.2 fast not long after the launch and have such a delay on updating your older device, because you want to push your new product??? Stop this is nothing more than just pushing a new product on everyone and not working on or updating your old product. I am not a fan of either apple or android but this has gone far enough, if you want customer loyalty work on the current product till at least 4 year’s before cutting the cord.

  • Prodjay10

I updated my phone early and now the screen is so dim that I can’t use my phone during the day. Sprint wants to replace my phone.

  • Hectormary0829

I just did the update to 2.3 I don’t like it does anyone know how to get it back to 2.2

  • Abriloneal7
