BBM support for BlackBerry PlayBook now available

mobile

PlayBook owners over on the CrackBerry forums have discovered that, after applying a new BlackBerry Bridge v1.0.0.83 update, they were able to use BBM on their BlackBerry PlayBooks. The feature reportedly only works with BlackBerry 6 devices right now, although there are rumblings that a BlackBerry OS 5 version is in the works as well. You’ll also need to update your BlackBerry Messenger application to the newest version first, and that should be available from RIM’s BlackBerry Beta Zone. Unfortunately some users are reporting that the new Bridge update is causing some lag on their phones, though, so you may want to hold off until RIM issues a release build of the software. Judging from the picture above, we’re definitely digging the multi-frame layout with the BBM buddy list on the left side and conversation view on the right.

LMAO, why would you go thru all that trouble of pairing the devices and making sure you have the latest software if you can just use the BBM or your blackberry.

    • Tom

Have you used one because they could not make it more simple to pair. As for why; well if I’m sitting at home on the couch using my Playbook and the phone is across the room on the table, why would I want to get up to check messages when they can be seen on the device I’m using.

To many people run their mouths about crap they don’t understand BB bridge is very easy to use. I set it up on launch day and I have never manually reconnected it. If I leave the range it automatically reconnects when i get within range. If I turn off the PB or my phone it automatically reconnects when they turn back on. It is truly effortless to setup and use BB bridge.

So I take it Ipad users shouldnt update their ipads because they can just use the more current version of the same app on their iphone?

  • Onoes

hey BGR! Shouldn’t you be reporting on the New ‘MACDefender’ Malware??

I have OS 5 and bbm works flawlessly with my playbook. Amazing what the folks over at RIM are doing. QNX IS UNREAL!!!

Working well on my PlayBook. It does seem to have a slight bit of lag on the PlayBook when I use it but that’s fine. I’m just happy that it’s now available and it should improve with further updates. No more having to switch back and forth from the BB to PB.

The PlayBook is definitely getting there. It is such a shame that RIM did not release a completed device when they kicked it out the door.

It would also have been nice had they actually marketed the device via TV, magazine and newspaper ads as well as numerous in-store and trade events. I think that RIM believe in a paraphrased tag line from Field of Dreams.

“If you build it, they will buy.” This is true but you have to tell ‘em about it too – duh.

Better perhaps that they didn’t. Wait until the platform is complete for consumers, *then* start your marketing blitz. Fewer returns that way ;)

Why does BBM seem like the old bulletin board chat lines from the 70′s. It’s that ancient, that’s why. Go BBM all 2 of your friends still on it, jobbers.
