ThunderBolt outsells iPhone 4 at Verizon, firm claims

mobile

AT&T on Wednesday reported impressive first-quarter iPhone activations that hardly seemed affected by the carrier’s recent loss of iPhone exclusivity. Now, investment research firm ITG is suggesting Verizon Wireless’ iPhone 4 might not even be the carrier’s top seller anymore. As reported by the New York Post, ITG claims that the 4G LTE-capable HTC ThunderBolt overtook the iPhone last month to become Verizon’s No. 1 smartphone. The Post did not report March sales figures for the ThunderBolt or the iPhone, though it did say Verizon had only sold a total of 2 million iPhone 4 units through the end of March. Apple is scheduled to report its second-quarter earnings on Wednesday, and analysts are expecting iPhone sales to total 16-17 million units.

Good one. A brand new phone out sold a phone that is 11 months to a year old. LOL good job HTC….sigh….

Not on Verizon it’s not. Let’s compare apples to apples. The iPhone 4 is NEW on Verizon, and so is the TBolt.

The Thunderbolt could be considered almost a year old…have you seen the Evo?

      • Macboy15

Seen it and had it for a whole eight days. Then returned it. To tired right now to chat about my worst experience with a cellphone right now. Believe me the thunder bolt is no different. The thunderbolt sold well for Verizon just like the Evo did for sprint. They both had there day and now it’s over. Meanwhile iPhone still sell at record numbers every quarter.

In september the game will be over again just as it is every time a new iphone come out. And the droid boys know it.

    • Jayhammy

Yes, but by then, there will be at least 5 different Android phones that will already be several steps ahead of the iPhone 5. There’s just no denying it: Android offers more than iPhone could ever hope to.

Have you been living under a rock the past year and a half. That has been the case for sometime now. It’s always been ahead and offers more in some ways. Yet it means nothing. 19 million in 3 months.

Dude, I hope you own Apple stock or something, otherwise, you are a loser.

      • Macboy15

Yes I own a couple shares. And I’m far from loser. I just like toying around with you kids. But what’s right is right. People talking down a dominating company in the tech world. All the present android os, web os and windows os tablet computers and smartphones exsist because of apple’s intro of iPad and iPhone. Ya ya I know windows phones and blackberry’s where out way before iPhone. And there has been tablet laptop computers for years now. I had and used most of them in the 90′s. But nothing took off till now. Give credit where it’s due.

Typical BGR lazy commentary. This is old news and the numbers from the “research firm” were already debunked.

But if the iPhone was 4G would it have the same results?

    • Tim242

If if if. 4G is not this phone’s biggest selling point.

I still like my iPhone 4, but the Thunderbolt is a cool device. If any Android device was going to sell better than the iPhone, I’m glad it’s this one(:

And they said it would never happen!

  • drudo

That’s b/c the tbolt is a superior device.

Why don’t they post some numbers instead of just claiming it?

People it’s a rumor Lmao. Everyone and their mama knows it’s not true.

The VZW corporate store manager by my office affirmed these sentiments. However it should be known that most iPhone sales went to existing Verizon customers not new customers.

Most Verizon customers who have owned Droid devices may already be too familiar with the product line and less likely to opt for the iPhone.

Apple did this to themselves. They have a great product but their close end eco system and limited US distribution will greatly affect their American market share going forward. Apple can’t sell the iPhone the way they put a premium price on the head of every Mac notebook either.

I really think Apple should R&D a product line that will work across all HSPA networks in the US (single chip that is mutli-band) so the devices could be sold to and compatible with both AT&T and existing T-Mobile subs merger or not. Sprint should be let in the game too.

Apple is still a great seller overall and that can’t be denied. But realistically those figures cannot be indefinitely maintained long term when you are the only manufacturer for the mobile OS.

I call bs on all those comments that thunder has 14-16 hrs battery life, really be serous guys
And tell the true nobody will judge you for that be honest even if that leads to your dead at least you will die with dignity!!!

My god your right Ive been lying to myself. Oh wait no I haven’t, you see the thunderbolt can and does have a decent battery life but that is determined by what you do just like all phones application take up power thus the battery drains if you are smart and conserve your power you have longer time or if you run everything on max and trying to shit out all you can then yes your battery will be shit.
