Amazon’s Android Appstore may launch March 22

mobile

Amazon’s new Appstore for Android devices could launch as soon as next Tuesday, March 22, according to sources speaking to Wired. Amazon publicly announced that it would be competing with Google’s Android Market back in January, and in an effort to draw users to its site, the company has plans to offer exclusive titles such as Angry Birds Rio. Wired’s source also suggested that users will be able to download apps not only from the web, but also from a mobile application. Just two days ago shots of the Appstore in action leaked, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see this launch date rumor come to fruition.

What I’m really interested in is the Amazon Tablet…

Now THIS really changes everything… The most valuable site on the Internet, the biggest store out there, selling Android apps…

I’ll bet dollars to donuts it will have more apps than Blackberry Appworld by the end of the week. Yes I used dollars to donuts. Yes, I’m older than you. I also use pig in a poke and sows ear into a purse colloquialisms as well as many other old time ones.

I have constant arguments with people…

Here I am in one corner saying that the more competing options the better. I mean, imagine what life with be without having hundreds of devices to choose from. Same thing with stores. I think if by the next year we have 100 different competing Android stores the better. So what if if the average consumer gets confused. So what? That’s their problem for being dumb.

In the other corner you have the Apple Minimalist Society saying that consumers will get confused with too many options. To them, I say, you shouldn’t be using technology products to begin with. Thousands of choices are good and only for those that know how to deal with technology.

I have take ALL technology products away from ALL people I deem unprepared or inferior. Like, for most of OUR parents? NO MORE TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS!

You have to accept this as a fact of life, and a fact of tech.
What if there was only 1 TV maker, with one 35″ TV.
What if there was only one car company with only 1 safe sedan?
what if there was only one clothing company with only one shirt?
you say “well there should be more than one” actually you may not say that, you may say “put an i in front of those things and I’m perfect with just one”.
Granted we probably don’t need 1000 android app stores, but Amazon has been pretty good at what it does. What if they take a safer, more closed approach than Google’s market? What if that becomes a safe-haven for the luddites that will inevitably get an android?
I know you wish everyone would just get a MacBook and an iPhone and an ipad, and apple would come out with beautiful white cars, dishwashers, and shoes and everyone would buy those, but that is just not how the world works. It’s a much scarier, more confusing place. So either accept it, or keep fighting your parodied fight, and maybe you will make the world so angry with the words Google and android that no one will touch a product associated with them, and we will just have a comfortable life with Bing on our iPhones.

I’m all about choice and competition, but I am also about more DROID and no Apple. I do agree with you though Walter (aka OG Norm).

What I’m more worried about in reality is the potential threat of Amazon losing it’s tax free privileges, which I keep hearing more and more about.

Tax free privileges for whom, and why would they lose them?

Thanks for the dissertation Walt! I wouldn’t expect any less from you.

So, that said, disclosure. I love Google. I use Gmail, Google Calendar (the best calendar application, bar none), Google Docs and other more consumer applications.

The area I have fun with is the Google/Android fans making fun of the idiots that love Apple. Yes, they are arrogant as well, but the fact that most Google/Android fans take issue with Apple’s goal of simplifying computing for the “masses” and call those that use their product simpleton idiots, irks me a bit. So, I will keep on having fun with this and see where it takes us.

I don’t think my diatribes will affect Google in the least. It will irritate Google/Android fans, but won’t make the financial reporting as “Goofan (aka Apple Hater) has cost us (Google) billions in revenue.”

Don’t let me forget that I also believe Google to be a unique company with TRUE good intentions. I believe they REALLY want to be different and I love that.

So, GOOGLE the Goofan (aka Apple Hater) Nation loves you!

Fair enough man, I just had this soapbox lying around and wasn’t sure what else to do with it.
Also, I’m a total phandroid, but still always remain skeptical of putting all my eggs in the Google basket, which is the reason I don’t use chrome.
