Apple intros free iPad engraving ahead of the holidays

General

In line with rumors that surfaced over the summer, Apple has introduced free engraving with all new iPad orders. The service, which affords buyers two lines of text that can be engraved on the rear case of an iPad, adds 1-3 days to the estimated delivery time of iPad orders. Rumors from over the summer suggested that Apple wanted to offer free iPad engraving from the start but demand had been too high to offer the service, which would have delayed production. Just like Apple’s free iPod engraving service, those hoping to get their iPads engraved will be able to do so during the ordering process.

I believe every Fortune 500 Company Exec making 10x more than you, your siblings, parents, and children will make in your lifetimes, combined, begs to differ.

    Suck it android.

      • MacMan

        Don’t be surprised troll.

    • LOLJobs

Anyway I can get my iPad and have Steve Jobs engraved instead?

I’d have him engraved with an Android robot.

  • FriarNurgle

    That font is mighty small.

  • Dara

    This is really ingenious.

Think about it, if the free engraving stops one return from happening, it probably pays for itself hundreds of times over.

    • Hackett

I made that mistake w/ my 2nd Gen iPod. I got my name engraved on it, then when a new version came out, and I wanted to sell it, I was stuck. :(

      • Jarrett

Yeah, not a lot of people named Hackett.

        @ Dara,

        Revenue $20.34 Billion
        Profit $4.31 Billion

Clearly not a lot of returns going on with their products.

We know though, no one is actually using the products they are buying.

      • Dara

I already called it ingenious Jarrett, it’s just one more way that Apple manages to extract value from its customer base.

        It’s truly awesome.

PT Barnum used to do something similar.

      • Jarrett

        @ Dara,

Strange, they keep opening stores. Those stores keep filing up with as many Non-Apple customers (who increasingly seem to be turning into Apple customers) as Apple customers. Each quarter they grow there business by roughly 60% (YOY).

Clown it all you want, spin it how ever you need to and make no mistake about it, you need to. Numbers don’t lie. Apple is completely crushing it quarter after quarter. It will take far more than the OHA, Nokia, Microsoft and even the deaths of Steve Jobs and Tim Cook to slow them down.

      • Dara

You talk about spinning numbers, but yet you feel the need to run out growth percentages and relative comparisons.

MS couldn’t grow their business 60% per quarter without ending global poverty and mandating computer literacy at the age of 5.

Nokia couldn’t grow their business 60% per quarter without somebody figuring out how a person could carry on two phone calls at once.

But Apple sells overpriced computers to people like yourself who just haven’t had netbooks explained to them properly (i.e. from within a black turtleneck).

Business is good but you should realize by now that you’re a rare bird Jarrett. Very profitable, but a limited resource.

      • Jarrett

        @ Dara,

I think what you mean is that Microsoft couldn’t grow their Windows/Office business by 60% per quarter. Microsoft has other businesses that have little to no share of markets. Their products in those markets speak for themselves as to why they have little to no share.
There are other Avenues Microsoft could take to grow their business, though that journey will not be taken (see Ray Ozzy leaves Microsoft) because the company believes to heavily in what got them their success, regardless of what the current market is dictating.

Nokia could also grow their business, although that would mean that they would have to enter some other markets to do so. I agree with you here also though. Nokia, like Microsoft could not grow their business by entering new markets because there is little to no mindshare for there products.

You fourth paragraph(?) isn’t possible to respond to because it is an attack of character, which is on point with how much you are consumed with this particular company.

Apple went from selling computers, to selling MP3 players, to selling media, to selling phones, to selling Apps and Tablets. Apple continues to grow their business one industry at a time. Apple delivers a product and it turns out to be the right product. How do we know it is the right product? Because every other company on the planet tries (key word there) to put out a MeeTo follow-up.

You are a pretty well educated person but your lack for understanding business especially when the market(s) are changing and mindshare and quarterly results prove you to be incorrect, it makes you seem ignorant.

It would be like me arguing that Nokia doesn’t ship 300 million devices a year, they do. They also have ASP’s well under $100.

Or, me denying that Microsoft licenses their OS at a rate of 8.8-1 in comparison to their nearest competitor.

Apple profits in everything they do, no other company can say that in CE or Tech in general, none. Now, you can disagree with that and I would say that is also your right but it doesn’t change one thing….. it’s fact.

      • Dara

Where did I say that Apple wasn’t profitable or doing great business?

They bring last year’s technology at next years prices to people 5 years behind the curve.

That’s a great business model. You end up with starry eyed customers and a ton of money.

I’m just saying that you’re 5 years behind the curve and therefore have no credibility when you tell everyone how great Apple is compared to other stuff that you don’t really understand.

  • Steel

How about: OMG! Where is the sdcard port?

  • Allen Walker

Oh cool! this means I can get an ipad that reflects who I really am!

Mines going to say, “sheep” or “tool” or maybe even my favorite. It’ll say “douche.” A true term for we who buy “i products.” Oh happy days!

    • dennis

You don’t an engraving. Your is low light and doesn’t get many visitors.

    • Jarrett

Or you could engrave it with:

“Q4 2010 Apple’s revenues were $20.34 Billion and their Profit was $4.31 Billion. As great as those numbers are they will only be better in Q1 FY2011 when Apple reports $26 Billion in revenue and $5.5 Billion in profits.”

I do agree with your assertion that you are a douche though. Knowing oneself is quite important to maturing in life and clearly you are on the path to recovery.

      Contrats!

      • Drew

OMG, shut up already with all of the cutting and pasting of numbers you got from a Wiki, they’re not from the top of your head so stop!! It doesn’t make you look smart. You people will never admit when something with an Apple logo on it is a bad idea. So pathetically myopic. You can spit numbers out but you can’t come up with a reason as to why you bought an Apple product other than……”It’s an Apple”. That is just weak minded.

  • Len

I call BS on Apple trying to offer this at launch.
This is just another ploy from them to convince people that having engraving on it is so much cooler than the plain one you currently own, and you should buy this… all of a sudden it doesn’t sound so “free” anymore.

  • Jarrett

What I like about the AppleHaters of the world is that they say things like “You Fanboys buy Apple products because you are told to.” Which would imply the the Android variety buys their products because the OHA commands them too. Or the N900 bunch (all six of them) buy those products because of Nokia’s controlling their customers.

People, buy what you like. If you like a great product you don’t have to justify your purchase. If you like all the “MeeTo” gadgets that come about a year after Apple releases something then good, you also don’t have to justify that either.

Not one of these companies loses any sleep at night thinking about what you feel in any shape or form. Individually you mean nothing, regardless of what your parents and loved one tell you.

    • DoubleTalk

Its great that you pick on the dumbest comments to point out are dumb.

Maybe there wouldn’t be HATERS if a-holes like you didn’t go around acting like everything YOU like must the end-all be-all of everything. People HATE because FANBOYS are retarded elitists.
I agree its dumb to say ‘because you were told to’ (though the fact that you had to comment on it means the insult is getting to you), but at the same time, a Fanboy would buy Steve Jobs’ turds in a box and say its the greatest turd ever expelled (and that Jobs shat first).

Fanboys begat Haters. Dont like Haters? Don’t be a fucking gay fanboy… and that goes for ALL fanboys.

      • Jarrett

        A. I really do not get where sexual orientation plays a role here.
        suggesting that mindless

        B. I have only ever presented facts in any and all of my torts or retorts.

        C. If you don’t like a product just say that instead of suggesting that mindless people are buying then.

If being truthful about things puts people off, well, to bad. If you need to feel better by being lied to I suggest giving the parents a call.

    • Drew

You’re ridiculous… There is no connection between Steve Jobs and OHA. So, what is your point?? What are you trying to pathetically paste together?? If you bought an N900, Nokia told them too?? Nice jab (in Steve Jobs fashion), I was one of those 6. My device is STILL better than yours regardless of how many were sold.

Why is it every few months or so I have to have these conversations with asshats like yourself and constantly remind them that Apple invented nothing…and if it weren’t for Bill Gates giving money to Apple to stay afloat, there would be no Apple.

They’ve bought things (iTunes) and stole names (the iPhone name from Cisco) and after barely 4yrs have the nerve to point fingers and question company’s who ACTUALLY had an impact on the cellphone industry (Motorola, Nokia) as far back as when Steve didn’t even have a job. Know your place…

      • Mgl323

Since when did “stole” meant license? I didn’t know Apple “stoled” names such as iphone and iOS.

  • ted zoller

Engraving is a fantastic marketing ploy by Apple. Cuts down on resales as who wants a unit with a strangers name. Nothing is for free….

  • Ryan A

This is just an easy way to apple to kill resale values of their products… it’s a genius idea on their part. No one will want to buy another person’s personalized iDevice on craigslist—so, to the apple store they will go to purchase a brand new device.

  • Tdot34

If one needed to find a way to be even more of a hipster douche bag that pretends to write books on their Apple product while sitting at Starbucks…. this is it.

    • Jarrett

I would love to say there is a difference between your love for Apple and the “hipster douche bag” love for Apple. In all reality though there is no difference.

  • Christine O’Donnell’s Broom

I see this as a way for them (in addition to VZW, Best Buy, Target, etc) to flush out the current stock faster for the next-gen iPad next year.

  • Turner Keven

This is super douchey. Apple dreams about being as cool at Microsoft. You apple fanboys should get your shirts engraved with “I am a super douche.”

    • Drew

They already do…. It’s called the “Genius Bar”. LOL!! Choads…

  • Allen Walker

Lol jarrett, is just upset cause he is the only douche he knows of in the area he lives in who shelled out the cash for such an idiotic product. Get a laptop. Not a giant ipod. Moron.

  • http://www.buymobile.net BuyMobile.net

Pretty good idea I’d say.. And i don’t think this will hurt Steve Jobs wallet any with the most recent sales number they posted ha. But once again, a great marketing scheme from Apple. Kudos
