Facebook and Skype to integrate voice, SMS, and Facebook Connect

AllThingsD is reporting that social networking giant Facebook and internet communications company Skype are planning to announce a “wide-ranging partnership that will include integration of SMS, voice chat and Facebook Connect.” The blog cites “sources close to the situation” and goes on to explain that the partnership will allow users to SMS and call Facebook friends (both video and audio) from Skype. The report states that this functionality will appear in Skype 5.0; which is due out of beta in the several weeks. Both Skype and Facebook have over 500 million registered users respectively making this a blockbuster partnership.

    *yawn* let me know when they get past version 2.8 on the Mac. I know the Mac and Windows are different programming environments, but really? Trailing behind two major versions is kinda shooting yourself in the foot for interoperability between your own customers.

      They don’t really care about 8% of the personal computer market. Most people will use the “outdated” apps anyways; not like they are losing anything.

    I have to wonder what will become of Facebook for BlackBerry and Skype for BlackBerry. Currently Facebook for BlackBerry doesn’t support Facebook Chat and Skype for BlackBerry is only available if you’re with Verizon (and no hints on when it’ll be available with other carriers).
