Google Voice widgets for Android made official

General

A few weeks back, we told you about Google Voice widgets for Android that were extracted from a leaked T-Mobile G2 ROM. Today, Google has made the widgets official. In a blog post, Google writes: “Mobile is all about getting super fast access to what you’re looking for and Google Voice is no exception. So, today we’re releasing an update to the Android app, which gives you immediate access to your Google Voice Inbox and settings via two new home screen widgets.” The widgets give you quick access to text messaging, dialing preferences, the “do not disturb” feature, as well as transcripts of your voicemail. The new version of Voice is available in the Android market now. Enjoy.

Serious question:Can the Fascinate get this or not because of Bing?

    • Andrew Munchbach

Yes, the Fascinate can get Google Voice and therefore these widgets.

To Debbie, John, DN, and anyone supporting android…

From someone who [absolutely] loves windows mobile, I can not agree with you.

In our house there are two people; one using android and the other using WM. Yep, you guessed it–there is no peace up in here!

Doesn’t really follow the standard google widget “style” of a black and grey gradiant, but hey at least it’s a start. Maybe we’ll start to see more 3rd party apps support for GV, I for one would love to see a launcherpro GV widget.

Fluff. I wish they would update the app to allow multiple text message recipients. That would a useful update.

      Debbie……., ‘Hush yo’ mouth !!’
      Don’t say that here, it may be misconstrued;
      only Apple praise, please?

thats what happens, when you have a team of professionals on your side…think how googles engine originated, they are taking a winner already, and shrinking it to what consumers love the most…..”give it to me on the go plz”

That’s because big money is behind the development of this device. My friend has one, and he can’t put it down, not even to eat dinner with his family.

I updated on the leak a few weeks back. Just replaced it with the Official version. Seems to be the same which is a good thing.

This is pretty cool, wish iOS had widgets…

Great news. Good features. Will be very useful on future Android phones, especially new, upcoming G2 from TMOB. Meanwhile, Verizon continues to cripple their own phones adding all that Bing crap and introducing new phones that won’t even work using Google maps/GPS.

Like, but 2 problems. 1) it installs a version of GV that stops us from calling all our Verizon friends free. Instead of adding 1 GV # to our Family & Friends (all calls free), it generates a different outgoing # to all calls. So, I uninstalled and went back to 3.4, not 4 version AND 2) Right, main new thing I want is text to multiple. Hey, we have groups!

    What’s google voice?

  • Jason J

Drake, Can’t you toggle, if necessary, from GV to just normal VZ calling (to your VZ friends, knowing that would still be a hassel)? Right, multiple recpient txting using GV txt would be icing on the cake.

  • http://www.memlok.com Drake

type google voice in your browser for best answer to that Mohammad

Widgets are kind of gay and I love them, coincidence? I think not.

  • mikestorm

This is fricken sweet I tell you what.

Also a new thing I noticed is that some rates for international calls have been reduced. For example calling to Bulgaria mobile phones used to be 39c a minute, and since yesterday its 6c a minute. Haven’t tested other countries, but this now makes way cheaper than skype.
